A WEE bit of Movie Trivia from Where are they NOW?

. Lisa and Louise Burns

Formerly From: The Shining
Currently: Lawyer and scientist
Net Worth: Combined $3 million*
Lisa and Louise Burns became famous as the terrifyingly-creepy twins from the Stephen King movie The Shining. The Shining was based on a Stephen King novel of the same name. True to King’s form, The Shining was steeped with psychological horror. The film starred Jack Nicholson as Jack Torrance, a struggling writer who accepts a position in a haunted hotel, set in a snowbound region of the Colorado Rockies.

The Burns sisters, who share a Twitter account called “The Shining Twins,” stepped back from the spotlight after the WarnerBros movie was released. They later stated that they were “shunned” from Hollywood. Neither are acting now. Lisa works as a lawyer, while Louise is a research scientist, though they still attend horror conventions now and again.

Went to Coney Island on a Mission From God... Be Back by Five (1999) BD:

1. I spun this MKV up for the second time since purchasing the BD back in 2018 based primarily on the title(!).

2. I forgot it had a DTS-MA 5.1 mix and overall, it's pretty good considering it's a low budget indie. There are moments of discrete activity throughout which is more than can be said for other huge budget flicks. Fidelity is fine for the most part although there are moments where spoken words are a bit low. Nothing approaches Nolan/Hardy mumbling though.

3. Based on a true story with great characters and cast, it's definitely worth a look. I got this one:

From thedigitalbits website:

Also today, filmmaker Darren Aronofsky has revealed on Instagram that he’s regained the rights to Pi (1998) and that he’s working with A24 to remaster the film and release it back into theaters and (presumably) on videodisc. The original 16 mm black and white reversal negative has been scanned in 8K and the film’s score and soundtrack have been remixed in Dolby Atmos. One would imagine a Blu-ray and 4K release is coming later this year. You can learn more about this here.

All Quiet on the Western Front (2022) - Netflix Movie - Where To Watch
Watched it on NETFLIX last night in 4K [Dolby Vision/DD 5.1] and in view of the current crisis in Ukraine, it hit me pretty hard. Told from a German perspective for the first time since Erich Maria Remarque's original novel was published in 1928, the central character, Paul Bäumer, leaves school, forges his parent's signature and joins the German Army naively believing he's pursuing a noble cause.

Former Austrian stage actor Felix Kammerer [pictured above] flawlessly plays the role of Bäumer in what can only be described as a bravado performance and his transition from unenlightened schoolboy to disillusioned and defeated soldier is nothing short of breathtaking. He is surely an actor to watch!

The production design, as well, is monumental in scope and NETFLIX has also supplied a Making Of documentary which accompanies its presentation. By all means watch it.

And an interesting tidbit from one of the Berlin screenings of Lewis Milestone's oscar winning first production of ALL QUIET:

However, at another film screening for the general public at Berlin's Nollendorfplatz, astonishment and horror followed when a Nazi mob who had infiltrated the audience demanded that the film be stopped and forced the projectors to shut down. In addition, Reichstag members of the NSDAP, exploiting their parliamentary immunity, released mice and tossed stink bombs into the theater, driving the audience out.

This was at the behest of Joseph Goebbels, then NSDAP district leader of Berlin (and who would later gain notoriety as Nazi Propaganda Minister). He felt that the film's unfavorable view of war ran contrary to Nazi ideology. He further railed against the film in an impassioned speech at Berlin's Wittenbergplatz. As such, subsequent film screenings could only take place under heavy police presence. In December 1930, "for security reasons," the Supreme Censorship Board withdrew the film's screening license. Consequently, the Jewish manager of the Mozartsaal, Hanns Brodnitz, came under the scrutiny of the National Socialists, and was eventually killed in a gas chamber in Auschwitz in September 1944. In January 1933, All Quiet on the Western Front was completely banned by the Hitler regime.
