I love Van Halen, but those albums are like 4 track. Not literally, but there's pretty much drums, vocals, bass, backing vocals and then Ed's guitar, plus usually a dubbed solo. There are like 6 elements total. The focus was on Ed's insane playing. I can't imagine there's enough content for any real separation and stuff without just being big stereo, with the backing vocals in the surrounds.
I am glad I found Van Halen from DCC on Gold CD. Guess that will have to do. 2020-07-04 12.40.38.jpg

I don't recall if I had them on my previous list(s), but I think Def Leppard would kick ASS in surround. Especially Hysteria. That has always been their top work for me. But honestly everything from High'n'Dry through their newest (Def Leppard) would work really well and be a lot of fun in surround. I'm thinking Atmos. :D
I've seen/heard true multitracks "out there" for "Rock of Ages", and there's definitely enough there for a great surround mix. Even the Rockband stems for tracks like "Bringing on the Heartbreak" have plenty to work with. There are a lot of synthesizers on the Mutt Lang stuff that I never realized were there until I heard these stems. Also layered guitars and those signature Mutt background vocals. I would love to see a surprise box set for Pyromania or Hysteria with an Elliot Scheiner surround mix (akin to the Appetite for Destruction set!)

If Steven Wilson could make Rush "A Farewell To Kings" sound amazing in surround, I think Van Halen could sound amazing as well in the right hands (I can dream :p )

Looks like a bootleg. Tons of Floyd Surround bootlegs on Ebay
Don't know about the bootleg part but it sounds pretty good to me.
I'll keep playing it till something better comes along. ;)
SW 5.1 remixes of the entire Floyd catalog. (I mean up to the Final Cut.)
Then he'd be missing out on some of PF's best work.
MLOR and DB are classics.
Also can't forget Endless River, RIP Richard Wright

I'd Give MY SHIRT to have my entire catalogue released in SURROUND....preferably DOLBY BOSSMOS!
Born to Run... Now you're getting into real fantasy. That album in multichannel would just be a reminder of how friggin compressed it is. It needs to be remixed, remastered and all of that compression taken off, if it is even possible. Yes, I know he did it on purpose, but the music on the album has the potential to explode through the speakers (not unlike Darkness does in places). It never will in the condition he delivered it. I've been in search of a version I could crank up without hurting my ears for years. I don't think it is ever going to happen and it makes me very sad.

I don't like overly compressed CD's either.
The 1985-1986 Japan for Europe CD sounds quite decent

I'm not sure who your referring to here, Springers mixes that were originally done had great DR. It was only until some recording geniuses decided to "remaster" it for High Resolution releases that things went to he-ll. All the early releases had DR averages in the 12-13 range. Shortly before the turn of the century things went real bad.

I'm probably the only person in the world who is NOT a Springsteen fan. Maybe it's because I grew up in NJ and went to college close to Asbury Park in the very late 70s and Bruce was the s#*t there. Everyone went to the Stone Pony because Bruce might show up. Ugh. I could deal with a few of his pop songs, like Dancing in the Dark, (mainly because his fans didn't like that song - felt he was a disco sell out with it. Lol,) but most of his stuff made me tune out. There was a move to make Born to Run the NJ state song. I said, "go for it." NJ deserves it. (Rant over, sorry.)

I have a growing list of titles that if done well, I would gladly pay $ for:

Jean-Luc Ponty - Enigmatic Ocean, Cosmic Messenger, Imaginary Voyage, Mystical Adventures, etc.
Al Di Meola - Elegant Gypsy, Casino, Hotel Splendido, etc.
Return To Forever - Romantic Warrior, Where..., No Mystery
Chuck Mangione - Feels So Good
Steve Vai - Passion And Warfare
Fleetwood Mac - Tango In The Night
Joni Mitchell - Hejira, Court..., Hissing...
Earth Wind & Fire - All N’ All
Christopher Cross - s/t
Joe Satriani - Flying In A Blue Dream, The Extremist
Pantera - Vulgar Display Of Power
Parliament/Funkadelic - Mothership..., Clones..., etc.

Great list. Funkadelic in Atmos would be amazing. RIP Bernie.

Passion And warfare is owned by Vai, is it not? I am sure he would licence an Atmos mix if approached.

Maybe compression is the wrong term, but... He has stated that he wanted this album to sound like the great AM radio of the 60s (or something like that). I have probably 5 different versions of the album, and you just can't turn it up loud enough to feel it, without it starting to hurt first. Maybe it is more about distortion. Darkness explodes off of your speakers. BTR does not, IMHO.

We all have our likes and dislikes. Can't argue with it. If I lived there I might have felt the same. I feel the same about Rush. But that's another story. :)
