There may have been a 5BX. I don't know, so I only commented on the models I am familiar with.

I also use two 3bx units: one an original and one a model III. I also had a 4bx. I agree that the impact restoration is useless. The 4bx also has a problem where, when the power goes out, it forgets its settings. So I trading it in for the 3BX III. I also agree that its bad to turn the expansion all the way up, as it sounds too artificial. In addition, since most of the CDs nowadays are recorded from analog masters, the 3bx units help quite a bit.
