Today DGM Ltd is delighted to announce the public launch of the highly anticipated documentary ‘In the Court of the Crimson King, King Crimson at 50,’ directed by Toby Amies (The Man Whose Mind Exploded).

King Crimson have always pioneered their own uncompromisingly independent route, and this documentary, 4 years in the making, has followed the same path. In a carefully choreographed global event, the movie will be available for One Day Only in select independent cinemas worldwide on Wednesday 19th October, with a specially filmed introduction.

This will be followed on Saturday 22nd October by a special streamed screening in London, with live introduction by Robert Fripp and Q&A with the director and band members. The whole event and movie to be available live worldwide on the nugs.net platform and available through Video On Demand for a 24 hour period thereafter to allow for fans in different time zones around the world. A BluRay/DVD release and larger box set will follow, with never before seen live performances of the band, outrageous outtakes and hours of unreleased additional footage.

The film explores the “acute suffering” and transcendent glory experienced by current and former members of King Crimson, allowing the audience an intimate and sometimes uncomfortable insight into the musicians’ experience as they confront life and death head on in the world’s most demanding rock band. ‘In the Court of the Crimson King’ is not only a film about a group that has been creatively active for 50 years it’s also a film about music, why it matters, and the painful sacrifices artists have to make in order to create work that changes people’s lives, but with jokes.

In keeping with King Crimson’s independent, ethical, and iconoclastic approach to the music and entertainment business they have sidestepped traditional broadcast platforms in order to bring the film direct to their fans without further delay or compromise.

"A grown-up film about working players living, dying, laughing, playing...Robert Fripp.

The movie has played in festivals worldwide to universally positive reviews:

…really about as good as rock documentaries get" VARIETY

fascinating and deeply funny” THE QUIETUS

One of the finest rock documentaries I have ever seen” NATIONAL REVIEW

One of the complaints people have about King Crimson’s music is that it’s cerebral, rather than emotional, in nature. Despite that argument, In the Court of the Crimson King exposes the music’s heart” THE AUSTIN CHRONICLE

King Crimson Setlist at In the Court of the Crimson King. King Crimson at 50., London, GB on 10-22-2022

I've put in for my copy of the Box Set edition of ITCOTCK at schizoidshop. For the $70+ bucks (including shipping), it's a great deal considering all the extra features included with this set.

All done, that was long, two days to watch all.
Really became engulfed and had to complete.
Highlights and negatives:
1. Not really a negative, but the Documentary, Rock In Rio and Live In Studio, listened in 5.1 DTS-HD MA was not, the best of course, but did add to the quality of sound, all the rest where in stereo.
2. Negative, so many songs very repetitive, overload.
3. Positives: Absolute # 1 was the filming of Bill Rieflin, Stage 4 cancer, absolutely tragic but he was so uplifting, a true warrior, his outlook on final time of life was so inspirational, I had my wife come in and I rewound and we watched together.
Almost the entire cast of King Crimson was, was interviewed, those that where living, I think.
Much love for Robert Fripp, but he brings lots of tension historically. Seemed like an Type A uptight person in general.
Adrian Belew, I liked what he said, where is the new music from KC? He also said that KC needs him.
Gavin Harrison, quiet guy.
Three drummers, front of stage, they don't have the advantage of looking at the rest of band, timing is superb. Most of time all three played, sometimes, two, sometimes one. If you where not playing for a particular moment, sit with hands folded.
All suit and ties, the band members explained the tour as groundhog day, the same thing everyday.
If I was in the band I would have to drink and do drugs, to break up the sterile monotony.
Negative, some of the same shots in Documentary are used in other excerpts.
Positive, 4 CD's in car are great, the songs are recordings from all over the place, studio and live.

I am not a King Crimson nut, but I do love exploring musical history, like exploring Bob Dylan for instance, fascinates me. This Documentary was right up my alley.

I always have the same question, why do box sets at this day and age include BD and DVD? Makes no sense. Save the money and concentrate industry wide on stand alone surround options.

There is a very large number of peeps out there still running DVD as their primary viewing so for a minimum uptick in price there is a single inventory item to create, track, inventory, ship and of course pay taxes on.

Now when Criterion started out with BR they did DVD/BR to save cost and their fans went all sorts of shitty on that decision.

Finally got my copy in the mail today so looking forward to absorbing it; thanks for the review.
