Back when John Prine died, I was delighted to stumble upon a great video of a "House of Strombo" show from a couple of years ago. Gordon Lightfoot had shown up at the Toronto house concert and was sitting on the floor near the front, and Prine heaped all kinds of genuine praise on him, calling him his "songwriting hero."

Now there's a new documentary about Lightfoot, If You Could Read My Mind. (Here's a short review in the Times.)

Just saw this and found it to be really interesting. The only bizzare interview was with Alec Baldwin. Not sure why they through him in the mix!

I subscribe to Rick Beato's channel, but I never seem to get notified when there's a new episode of "What Makes This Song Great?" Anyway: episode 94, from back in August, was "If You Could Read My Mind":

Loved the film mostly, grateful for so much early color film footage. The songwriting process was interesting - doing his own lead sheets and having them look like art! Impressive.
