Panasonic/Technics Acoustic Field Dimension system description

Kirk Bayne

Acoustic Field Dimension (AFD), looks rather cool but all it would be is an adjustable RM/Dyna type decoder. It's unclear if the Phase shift allows SQ decoding or if it's there more to add the QS style phase shift to the rear channels. In any case it doesn't relate to the unit shown. I would think that the width would adjust in phase blend for the front channels, while depth would adjust out of phase blend for the rear channels.

AFC is Automatic Frequency Control, and it was still very common on units in the seventies. Qplex would be some kind of basic RM/Dyna type decoder.
