Hitachi CS-4000 8 track player

Is the Hitachi CS-4000 a real quadraphonic 8 track player? Or is it some kind of Halfer matrixed system? Also, is it a good player in general?

I have one but have not powered it up, the tape head is 4 channel and it came with a Q8 sampler so I'm sure it is real quad player with "matrix" button for 2ch tapes.

Presumably, I wouldn't expect an advanced matrix circuit inside an 8 track player.
