How Many Have Tinnitus?

Had it since the 1980's, due to a combination of listening to stuff at far too high a volume (I used to be a recording engineer) and multiple sclerosis. Ears, you only get the one set, so far at least.

Although very interesting, it is not "fit" for human application yet. And there is a big downside...for me...
Again this seems to getting an "Always connected" apparatus in the future (see the bleu tooth section) I'm not a big fan of "always on".
And better yet... I like to forget my phone ever more often...but that just the little rebbel in me..

That said... It could bring a big relief for many, but it wil never be a replacement of the original. and certainly is not a cure, just a very nice implant to get around the problem.. This could be just the ticket for many.... mind you...
But it artificial replaces signals that the brain misses, due to a defect coursed by "overload" or illness.

But Again... it is not there yet. And we have to see it ever get there for the many of just a happy few.



Hearing aids... Yes later this year I hope to visit an specialist to get an other test, and maybe an aid.
But I 'm not convinced It suits my audiophile dreams and needs.

Again this is an apparatus with it's own audio profile / signature, always connected.... more or less tuned in to counter effect (not heal) my tinnitus. This seems to involve correcting my missing frequenties.... HU? Strange thing is... to what I learned so far... is that my ears do hear it all, but the brain is not receiving all what my ears hear., and therefor the brain is Producing some sounds to replace the missing reception.

But an hearing aid is "correcting" this by producing more sound in the missing range? On the outside of the ear....
I just don't grasp that logic...


I think there needs to bee more research done... That there is a medical cure but we just did not find it....

I came to this (way to easy conclusion) due to a experience I had after a Concert I attended of Italian singer Eros Ramazzotti.
The live concert was fairly loud, but not "overwhelming" .... Sound Quality was not bad at all!
On the ride Home I was free of any tinnitus sounds for about 30 minutus ... Really very relaxing....
I don't understand why...maybe the concert was louder then I thought is was and some other pathway's where temporarily out of order, that being a great "flattener"
I did hear my girlfriend very well though!! I even had get involved in a conversation with her

This event led me believe that there might be options to "reactivate" the brain pathway's that are damaged in my specific case. But that we just did not find the right way. But it is easier and cheaper to prescribe a Taylor made Microphone/ Amp/ Speaker solution witch in fact does seem to help many..

I guess in my lifetime we will never really know..

So Elon.... Sign me up Buddy!! But with-out the "always on" option please... I still like to leave home without my dumbass smart phone...

OK, folks.. of ALL the things I have tried.. pills, Ginko, etc. THIS VIDEO which I found yesterday has helped my tinnitus subside quite a bit...

Thanks for sharing that, kap'n. It looks interesting and giving it a try for the first time seems to have affected my tinnitus somewhat. Not that it's a major change, actually more just a change in the tone of it, but enough to make me hope that doing it regularly will provide some relief.

I tended to prefer the right side of the stage at punk venues growing up and now have reduced hearing in my left ear. Now that I am fifty, longer listening sessions can aggravate that ear and I can hear some noise afterward.

I have always loved loud music, so the older I get the more my bottom lip sticks out in a pout. I have tried to limit how loud I turn it up and for how long.

I'm luckier than most because I have tinnitus for a couple of days and then I have almost none for a couple of days. It's been a cycle like this for several years. I try to clear my schedule to allow time to listen to music on the "good days". On the bad days, I find that if I listen to dense electronic music for 30 minutes or so, the tinnitus goes away for bit afterward.

Also, Elon Musk's neutal link received FDA approval recently.

I have never heard of this Lenire method but I visited the website & did a little superficial research. I look forward to you detailing your experience as you go along.

Now for me, if Medicare doesn't pay for it, I can't do it. And the closest clinic is in St Charles, MO & I live in the Kansas City area.

I just tried it Kap, hopefully it will work. Construction and loud music left me with tinnitus.
I took opiates for awhile and that seemed to make it worse.

One of the best days of my life was when the tinnitus lifted completely for 24 hours. The next day it sadly returned, that was about 26 years ago.

Sigh. I'm giving Ginkgo a try. I figure 6 months and if works great, if it don't it don't.
Getting on well past 50 years now, I don't really hold out a whole lot of hope.

I have little tinnitus and I barely remember it. But from time to time the whistle gets louder and becomes quite noticeable. In these cases I usually do the yawning maneuver, disengaging the jaws, and although I barely felt a difference in pressure, the increase in volume of the tinnitus disappears and returns to the usual level.

This maneuver is mentioned in this video and it really helps me.

I will practice the rest of the exercises.
