A how-to for that? I'm planning to buy the set but then i need to place the audio in the nas...

Well I'm no expert by any means (and I'm really super un-technical) and I haven't done it for a while (too many reasons to go into here) but I've successfully used this combination in the past...

(Samsung External Blu-ray Writer)
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00INGA7ZG

With this:
(Make MKV.... to rip and decrypt.. last bit v.important I screwed up a few times by not ticking that box to decrypt!)
http://www.makemkv.com

Then this:
(DVD Audio Extractor.. to extract and export as MultiCh Flac)
http://www.dvdae.com

..and I will be trying it all over again come June with this (hopefully wonderful) Chicago Quadio set.. so I can play it on the computer in Surround too, not just the Blu-ray Discs themselves.. if I'm buying these kinds of discs that offer no facility for playback on the computer as part of the package and that's what I want to do, I'll do whatever it takes.. stuff it..!! :D

Good Luck! :upthumb

Why do you need MakeMKV to de-crypt? Doesn't DVDAE do the decryption as well? Its touted as being able to rip blu-ray audio.

Well I couldn't get DVDAE to do so as a standalone app back when I was having a go (last year I think it was, not 100% sure of timescale so much has happened personally in the last year-18 months) but whatever was happening etc I know I had to decrypt with MakeMKV first in order to get fully working copy of the disc that I could then run through DVDAE to get just the Hi-Res audio tracks.

As I said its not my thing at all, I just try and conquer all the computer crap (that I know is a breeze to some members here!) since the desire to hear all this surround stuff is so strong and sometimes there is no other way but to turn to the computer which I reluctantly do, take a deep breath, have a strong coffee (or something stronger) turn the phone off and go for it (! :D ) but seriously please don't take my word as gospel on the subject but that's what I found at the time, yes, MakeMKV first then DVDAE.

DVD Audio Extractor can't decrypt most Blu Rays. You need a decrypting product to go with it. Something like DVDFab Passkey, for example.

AudioMuxer has Tools/Extract Audio from BluRay.

It will export to FLAC.

I didn't think AudioMuxer had decrypt tools either. I guess I'm interested in where this discussion goes as well. I will be doing this soon, I just need to get the external Blu-ray drive, but I thought, up to this point, that DVDAE would be all I needed in the way of software. Apparently not.

So based on what you wrote, am I correct in thinking that you had to make a copy (MKV file) of the BR Disk with MakeMKV and then extracted the copy with DVDAE?

Yes, MakeMKV has (or maybe "had", not done it for a while) a tick box option to decrypt, which I didn't do initially and was a bit flummoxed.. but once I sussed that box had to be ticked it processed the BD like a good'un (I tried it with some HFPA's like the Bob Marley 30th 5.1 BD and Bryan Adams Reckless HFPA.. and it worked a treat).. oh and then I put the file thru DVDAE as I would any old DVD-A/V, etc. to make 5.1 Flacs.
Trust me, if I can do it anyone can!

I hope these Chicago disks get released as individual titles as I would buy IX (Greatest Hits) but I'm not really interested in the whole box set, especially at USD158 (no Bullmoose to AU) with the current USD-AUD exchange rate.

I need to budget for the upcoming Fleetwood Mac Mirage big box of (unwanted) vinyl to get my hands on the 5.1 DVDV.

I follow this model but use Audiomuxer to extract the audio from the MKV instead of DVD Audio Extractor....

Several good solutions mentioned above already. THe one I am using is make a back up copy with MakeMKV, for the newbies to MakeMKV, making a back up is something different than making a .mkv.

With dvd audio extract I browsed to the back up and loaded the file. This has the advantage that you can import the titles from the freedb database. At least with the Panegyric YES and XTC bda's all information was already there, with the various album variations (new stereo mix, 5.1 mix, original master etc) tagged for easy recognition. Not sure if an early receiver added the info to the freedb database or Panygeric/Neil Wilkes themselves. However did this, thanks :)

The meta data (title and track info) is user uploaded. Please use DVDAE to upload any added info if it isn't already available.

I use a similar method except mostly use DVDFab to 'backup' the BD to my hard disk as its much faster than MakeMKV, doing it in less than half the time.

I then use DVDAE if I want anything except DTS 96/24 or higher rates. If the BD only has DTS HD then I use AudioMuxer to convert to FLAC.
