I do not have the original book release from 2012, had the file in 5.1, therefore I wanted this 2022 book version for my collection, now up to date.
Listening to the hard disc via the player as I write. Sounds excellent in the 5.1 DTS 96/24. I finished listening to all and quite pleased with surround and sound quality.
A few questions:
1. The original LP, did it have all the pages that are like newspaper? Then in the 2012 reissue they added the Colour Supplement?
2. Was this 2022 version sold for the specific reason of including the 2012 corrected DVD?
3. No where, book or discs do I see a track list? I read it is one track, but are there A,B,C, etc to the songs, or just plain one track?
1. Yes, the original LP came with a 12 page newspaper. Looks like my copy (a hand-me-down from my father) is missing the paper, otherwise I’d post images, but if you go to the
Discogs page, and click the album cover, you’ll get a photo gallery of what it looked like. The stories were also printed on the front cover, inside the gatefold, and on the rear cover, with the inside of the gatefold containing the full ”poem”. The 2012 version was the 40th anniversary edition, and a retrospective essay, and interviews were added, as well as full color photos.
2. That, and as a way to celebrate the 50th anniversary. One would have hoped they updated the packaging to reflect this, but it’s just a reissue of the 2012 40th anniversary set.
3. Technically speaking it’s just one song. Side A, and Side B both are “Thick As A Brick” on the vinyl label. You can treat it as two songs however If you count Side A and B. Interestingly, the version of the Steven Wilson stereo mix up on streaming is split into 8 tracks, neatly dividing each movement, likely done to garner more streaming royalties (A common practice. A fun side fact, the most extreme example I know of is the 8+ hour long album “Sleep” by Max Richter has a version that’s 31 tracks… and the version in Atmos and their strange companion app uses is 204 songs, with one track roughly every 4-7 minutes.).
