RIP John Koss looms large in Wisconsin electronics. He'll be missed.

I grew up a couple miles from the WI/IL state line and am a UW alum. On I-43 on Milwaukee's North side was a Koss billboard featuring their innovative ads. Their facility was right there. Still frequent a few restaurants in that part of town.

I had a pair of Koss I bought in high school. I later bought K6-LCQ Quad phones. No Quad effect. All great sounding headphones, tonally!

In the mid-70's and early 80's, I sold hi-fi. We had floor stacks of PRO 4AA & AAA's and literally sold thousands at my store.

Koss insisted on stacking the drivers vertically in their quad headphones instead of horizontally, so no wonder the quad effect was minimal. The phase 2+2's were a bit better but the rear drivers were placed in front! With the Phase 2+2's they limited the frequency response of the rear drivers in an attempt to provide direction clues derived from frequency response. IMHO that idea does not work. I don't know if their other quad phone models used dissimilar drivers or not, they all look the exact same to me, the exact same from model to model as well.
