Listening to in Dolby Atmos Streaming, via Tidal/Apple/Amazon

This is a surprise: Mahler's "Resurrection" Symphony, in a renowned 1963 performance conducted by Otto Klemperer. (This symphony was effectively Klemperer's calling card.) Classical reviewer David Hurwitz called the 1998 CD remaster on EMI Classics "among the finest recordings that the piece has ever received." This big-ambience Atmos upmix gives it even more clarity, dynamics, and immediacy. Whatever technology the Warner Classics engineers are using, they're using it right.

I just checked Apple Music this morning and "Signals" is playing in Atmos here this morning in the Toronto area.

I was always bummed the R.E.M. 5.1 mixes never went back this far. Love to see this, still my favorite band. I reckon this means a 40th boxset is likely incoming.

Agreed this is huge, and great detective work to use the Tidal credits feature to find previously unknown Atmos or 360 mixes. I do the same thing.

UPDATE: It's actually available on apple music here in California for whatever reason. Glad we're getting a blu ray of this one at least so that there will always be a copy that's available for those willing to pay. Better than nothing.

This is such a great find, @fripppp !! This album is such an amazing debut album, and back in 1983 it was a breath of fresh air. The Atmos mix is good, not great...bu the almost-universal thing about immersive mixes is that they unbury (instruments and vocals) very effectively, even if the final use of heights, etc is not state of the art. This album has great nuances. Thanks again for the sleuth work.
