So Very Hard To Go - Tower Of Power

Continuing a bit of a Soulful evening. This mix is fantastic! 🤩 Kinda gone for a quadraphonic style mix with horns pinned to the corners, works really well. Just goes to show mixing quad like in 2020s still works... They shouldn't have stopped!

Wow--has there been a new dump of vintage singles on Tidal recently? I gave up on Tidal a few weeks ago, but I don't remember seeing any of the three you posted about today...

Interesting coming across some that have had multichannel mixes before. I still prefer the Scheiner 5.1 and the quad to be honest (might also be down to compression) but these Atmos mixes are very good. :phones

I finally got all my Atmos discs out of there box sets, etc into my shoe box. I was turned on to this good list and think i own at least what I want to own for now. I am sure by end of this year I will have the Atmos rip and playback figured out but shoe box is a start.
Listening now to R.E.M in Atmos.

That's awesome Mark. You being the carpenter and all.....you need a well crafted :LB box.

Hopefully Pups if they've located the tapes for one song then they might as well do the rest of the album?! It does sound really good!
Us folks that don't yet have an Atmos setup are always curious (at least I am!) of what they're mixing into the height speakers on these. I mean heck, just because there's more speakers/channels to mix into doesn't mean it's going to be discrete right, (insert Silverline here.)

So do you @MrSmithers (or others) remember what was mixed into the heights on this one and was it discrete or just maybe some kind of blend with the lower speakers to fill the room, i.e. vocal ambience etc.?

I think a lot of the time the heights are used as an extra dimension to the mix (as opposed to isolated effects like helicopters that you get on movie soundtracks etc) to add to a sense of 3D in the room? I'm only on a 5.1.2 system for the mo so I'm hoping if/when I upgrade it will be an even bigger boost... But they can go crazy (like on Kraftwerk/Booka Shade/Yello) so that the music pans from the fronts around the room via the heights which can sound really cool...

In regards to this song - I'm getting mostly the electric guitar reverb and backing vocal reverb from the heights - but it works really well to give a feeling of depth and full immersion.

I think there's some clever higher end AVRs that can actually show you the object based mapping as the content is playing? Or something going on like that...

So something like this which uses movies as an example... 🎬

Very cool that Atmos Object Viewer, thanks for checking out the song also. Still doesn't address the actual content in the channels specifically, but perhaps while listening one could separate out those heights to hear what's in there when more curious. Also, mixes don't always have to be discrete to be an effective enjoyable experience, and certainly some genres of music (more ambient types) would be difficult with sussing out some discrete elements anyway.

The Trinnov Altitude 16 Trinnov Link is $17,000.00. I was watching the Trinnov You Tube videos and some live posts with the designer of the system shown, super high end and very good program. In the end too expensive and even if it wasn't do I really want to obsess with numbers, graphs and colors.
The You Tuber Sparechange is a guy I have watched a lot, he does try to do the right thing.
Sometimes it is a good idea to reboot myself, and just use the tools I was born with. I am the biggest gear head I know, and it can get in the way of what I truly want to accomplish which is sitting and listening.
All that said, the Trinnov product is certainly cool
