Geoffrey Stoner, Watch Out! (Ovation, 1973), in a superb conversion from quad reel. Wow! I didn't know anything about this guy, and was expecting some kind of B-list soul singer. But he's a total, top-shelf pro, and so is everyone involved with the record. (The only thing like a household name I recognized among the backing band was Chicago jazz and soul guitarist Phil Upchurch.) I can't think why Stoner didn't break out on the national scene--except maybe for his unfortunate surname--and the fact that in 1973 he had a lot of competition and mainly did covers (Incredibly well!) rather than original material. Great, sensitive, powerful singer, with a clear background in blues and gospel.

Super Furry Animals, Rings Around the World (DTS DVD 5.1). Hat tip to @steelydave for chatting up this band. Welsh latter-day psychedelia. Caravan meets TMBG (and XTC, and Blur, and Flaming Lips, and--I donno...somebody who's known the band longer than I should chime in. But they're actually very much their own thing.) Mind-blowing stuff: very playful, sometimes extravagant approach to surround, complemented by entertaining visuals and menus. And these guys know how to use an LFE channel! Would love to see this re-released in non-lossy audio on a BDA. Maybe even remixed for Atmos? (I guess that ship has sailed, though: the 20th-Anniversary edition was 3 CDs only.)

Anyway, I've got Phantom Power and Love Kraft queued up after this.
