hey Linda, great to see another person who owned an sh-3433 from new
+ sold audio stuff at the time that's pretty cool

how long did your scope last? has/did it burn out?

do you ever remember seeing the sh 3434's go on sale?

Also, I would like to add something to this thread pertaining to the Technics scope but I don't know anything about it. \;^(

Doug

perhaps you can start a thread on the Technics SA-6700x, I have been waiting to find some pics......its a nice reciever with scope.....its Technics/Panasonic and has a scope....so related in a sense

sounds like a neat CD-4 set up too

Colin

The screen on my SH-3433 is fading, but it still works. For the first 10 years I owned it, the scope was on any time I played music. It's the only vintage piece I own that has any issues. Things were built to last back then.

I don't recall the SH-3434 being sold in the US, but I'll defer to those who posted it originally.
Linda

Does anyone know if there are any internal pots to boost the gain? The last one I saw needed more gain to fill out the display, no matter how it was fed, speaker level or preamp level.

This is the Pioneer SD-1100.
The Pioneer scope that was geared more towards a tech than just a fun scope to view was this unit. Before i acquired this way back when, someone decided he wanted black front and had someone do a real black tint on the front, was originally silver. This 100_8306.JPGpioneer_sd-1100_01b.jpg has been a great scope, light is out on the meter now. The 4 channel mode is visible on the display switch under the right meter. These units were rare back then, best place to look might be an older electronics repair shop, techs used these for repairs with all the funtions.

We had an SD-1100 on our sound board console in my store. It was a wonderful demonstration tool and a great conversation piece, as were our 4 Altec Voice of the Theater floor standing speakers.

I've used a Technics SH-3433 for nearly 40 years. The Pioneer is more versatile, but was discontinued when I got the Technics. Needless to say, the Pioneer wasn't a huge seller. Too bad. It was a fantastic piece.

About the internal gain. I have the tech manual and found no internal adjustments to boost the gain. I've been driving it with Preamp Out (outputs) from my Yamaha surround reciever. When I plugged a DVD Players analog outputs into it, it went to full blast. These units were designed originally to feed off the Quad tape monitor loops or scope outputs. What really mifs me is the speaker level outputs still don't have enough "poop" to bring the scope to full size, and they should.

Looking at this thread I find it hard to believe that Technics or Panasonic SH3434 would have been marketed outside of Japan.

In the United Kingdom the National Panasonic warehouse at Langley near Slough in Berkshire, stocked only a small number of SH3433's let alone a different model!

The market was considered very small at best for such luxury items.

I had to return a faulty unit which failed after only a couple of days, with the blessing of the local dealer, so got to see the inside of the warehouse circa 1976 for
myself. I am fortunate that the replacement is still functioning after all this time.

It is perhaps just as well that the SH3434 was not available, being too young and with too much money, I expect that I would have bought one!

Best wishes to all.

remember, lots of this stuff was bought by military personnel overseas. In a PX or just in a shop, where the person was stationed. I know guys who brought stuff home, you could ship a bunch of stuff home for free.

Hi Leevitalone1

Very good point with reference the Post Exchange.

Some of the same equipment came to the United Kingdom by the same route, however I developed the opinion that for whatever reason that the PX specialised in Friday afternoon models, by virtue of the failure rate!

For a time there was a steady stream of very cheap Sansui QRX 9001's with failed Dolby FM on one channel and other faults.

I hope that your experience was better than mine.

Best wishes.

Perhaps you just had a bad experience or witnessed one regarding PX stereo equipment. We have a PX catalog here somewhere-I can't find it right now, maybe a member can help and reference it for us, so you can see just what they did offer to military personal.
From my own experience's in the Army in the late 60's, I saw nothing but good quality Japanese gear coming out to these stores. Every manufacturer makes bad stuff, but once you see the cat. I think your mind will change.
Anyone? The PX cat.?

All my Stereo Equipment is ALL Technics. It took me 6 years to find it but it was well worth the Wait!!
This is what I Own!!
