Same here, at first glance I prefer it to Warrior ("Assault & Battery", "Magnu", and "The Demented Man" are the only songs I really like from that album). "Damnation Alley" and "Hassan I Sahba" should be fun in surround.
Simon House definitely added professionalism to a great run of Hawkwind albums.
Here is his contribution to Quark:
  • Simon House – keyboards, violin, anvil, vocals, and charm

Hmmm ,

I wonder why we see no releases of any HAWKWIND ALBUMS prior to 1975 ??? .......None on Atomhenge, anyway.

Might it be a fight with the labels ?
They were on United Artists here , originally, and then I saw a couple on EMI.

And I have that 5.1 upmix cd/dvd of Space Ritual ,dts pal ,(on EMI ).

Hawkwind’s tenure with the Charisma Records label in the latter part of the 1970s saw the band’s music break new ground. Dave Brock and Robert Calvert’s writing partnership produced a series of classic albums in ‘Quark, Strangeness And Charm’, ‘Hawklords – 25 Years On’ and ‘PXR 5’ and their live performances (with Calvert as an able frontman) became legendary.

The period between February 1977 and June 1979 saw the recording and release of this trio of classic albums, which saw Hawkwind adapt to the changing musical times and adopt a ‘new wave’ approach both on record and on stage.

This boxed set features stunning new 5.1 Surround Sound and Stereo remixes of these albums by Steven Wilson and also includes a host of rare studio out-takes from the time. Significantly, the set gathers together new mixes of all the surviving live recordings made on the band’s September 1977 tour, the Sonic Assassins concert in December 1977 and a Hawklords’ concert from November 1978. Newly mixed from the original multi-track tapes, these performances feature many previously unreleased tracks.

Take my money

Woo hoo! 45 Years On, to the day, from the Barnstaple gig.

Looks great. It's difficult to take in and compare all the info but I think there might be a few tracks on the previous Atomhenge 2CDs that are not on this. E.g. Assassination was on 25 Years. Possibly been renamed, will be easier to compare when I have the box in my possession and can compare the audio.

As usual, I personally find too many different versions of the same tune a bit overwhelming, so in many cases I'm actually happy to have fewer, but I do wish that any truly non-LP tracks could be mixed into surround as well. I'd rather have 20 mins of 'new' tracks in 5.1 than 4 hours of demos/ live/ alt takes in stereo. This is not a complaint. The box looks great. And HW are a great live band.

Here is a picture of Robert Calvert giving Noel Redding a lift on his bicycle , which I mention just because it is rather lovely. Silver Machines (scroll down the page a bit)

Really looking forward to this, but I can’t help feeling a little disappointed about the lack of Atmos since these are on Blu-Ray (maybe they were done before SW upgraded his studio?). Also, smaller CD/DVD sets for each of the remixed albums as was done for VDGG would be much appreciated.

I am so happy we are getting the multi channel mixes all at once for a very reasonable price. I wish Gentle Giant did that with Free Hand, Interview and The Missing Piece. I thought Interview would be out by now. I dig Atmos, but if I cannot have Atmos, I will take a Steven Wilson or a Stephen W Tayler 5.1 mix any day.
