I think everyone would give Jim Fosgate the award here for the Tate II, They are hard to find, expensive and if the logic chip dies your DONE! So with that out of the way what would be a comparable using technology available now?

The SM is really the only option if you don't want to deal with the pitfalls of 40+ year-old gear. It is rather amazing that a new SQ decoder is being made in 2020. That being said, I still think the Tate gives slightly better separation on the old SQ LPs.

The real strength of the Involve decoder is the QS decoding - I don't know how they did it, but it sounds almost as discrete as tape.
