I just got a CD of Pete Townshend's Classic Quadrophenia
(Deutsche Grammophon GmbH 4794528).
Choir – London Oriana Choir
Conductor – Robert Ziegler
Guitar – Pete Townshend
Orchestra – The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
Orchestrated By – Rachel Fuller
Vocals – Alfie Boe, Billy Idol, Pete Townshend, Phil Daniels
Written-By – Pete Townshend

I realize that quadrophenia is related to schizophrenia, but is there any form of surround sound here? The only mention of quad in the album notes is that Townshend was trying to create a "quadrophonic mixing board".

My question is - is any kind of surround sound intended? Playing this through Pro Logic II has the choir surrounding the audience. The orchestra is mostly up front, as are the vocals, but some ambiance from the orchestra is audible around the listener. One article mentions a 5.1 version.
