I'm curious. Is this a format that could be converted to be played on a speaker set-up?

Well , JVC did have an outboard decoder for binaural (The Binauralator) back in the mid to late seventies . :)

Perhaps the "live performance" known as the LAST LIVE PERFORMANCE being presented at the V&A , will prompt a blu-ray release with "Ambeo" and 5.1 , from Pink Floyd later this year.??
Time will tell. (y)

Yes, JVC had a binaural system for Stereo recordings (Bifonic) and for Quad recordings (Q-bifonic).
Heard the Quad version (Q-bifonic) demonstrated in the '70s over 4 speakers. Impressive.

And binaural recordings are still coming out to this day.
Cobra Records just released a new one this weekend in DSD Binaural for headphone fans.
The interest in hearing virtual surround sound over stereo headphones continues. :)
