Good lord, I get a headache trying to figure out what the heck I did years ago. I still have my already burned (it takes 2 different CD-Rs with different files). I also have a new 578 that needs update to SACD-R.

First off, these instructions were for ONLY for a US model of 578.

If memory serves, the factory out of the box 578, came with 2 different firmware versions. 1.x.x and I THINK, I could be very wrong, 2.05.

I remember needing to flash up and down for some strange reason in order to get the most out of the 578. Which was, SACD-R playback and being able to play the Talking Head’s DVD-As. It would also ignore the watermark on my store bought DVD-As that I backed up. I did lose region free playback from a previous different upgrade, but the work around was copying my non region 1 DVDs to region free using DVDFab. If I recall correctly, the unit still decided PAL to NTSC.

I think one can just go from 2.05 to 2.13 if you have the CD-R and file name right. But do this at your own Risk. WARNING, any flashing may turn your player into a Brick!

When I get around to it, I will find my CD-Rs for flashliging and new 578. I will post result here.

Thanks a lot for your reply, Old Quad Guy.

As I mentioned I bought this init used, and it is in 2.09 version. Unfortunately, I have no clue what happened to it in the past.

But it's for sure a US model. I live in Brazil, and there never was a Brazilian version. Mine is zone 1 and 120V. Brazil is zone 4 and 127V. All menus are in English and there's no option to Portuguese. It's a US model, for sure.

May I go to the 2.13 from this 2.09? I'm just interested in SACD-R playback. No problem if it's in PAL or NTSC or zone 1 only. No interest in DivX too.

I bought this unit just for SACD playing.

Yes, I think you can go from 2.09 to 2.13, IF the file is right and disc burned right. But again, I could be wrong. Please don’t blame me if you get a brick for a unit. There were or are a lot of files out there now.

I only trust the CD-Rs that worked for me years ago. But, nothing ventured, nothing gained as the saying goes.

Well, the first step worked like a charm.

I "downgraded" my 2.09 to 2.05 (checked before and after) and my SACD-R is nicely playing now!

Now I will perform the 2.05 to 2.13.

Completed with success! I have now a DV-578 with 2.13 and playing SACD-R discs!

Thanks a lot for all topic writers, mainly Old Quad Guy!

To be a starting point to (who knows?) someone like me still buying a DV-578, here's the procedure.

The Player was with 2.09 firmware, and NOT playing SACD-R. The player is a US version, region 1, 120V.

You need the file SACD-R.zip located on Super Audio CD Decoder - Browse /SACD-R_firmwares at SourceForge.net , two empty CD-R, and CD Writer of course.

Write two CDs with the files described in the following steps. And use them is these steps.

===================================================================================================

1) Insert disc labeled PIONEER with filename B4BA2096.BIN. The original filename is B4EA2106.BIN, located on DV-578A folder. To be sure here's hash information of file on final disc:

Nome: B4BA2096.BIN
Tamanho: 1489344 bytes (1454 KiB)
CRC32: 1AB54219
CRC64: 399323D871230113
SHA256: 15FDB6DFD041065E5D2C80CD360B70B5C79915EAB02B590B6CFA373FE39BDE46

BLAKE2sp: 3EFEB9BDB588FBC297AAB054F5D8DC3F51E66EFC495D522572289DBDC7ABE3F8

When the firmware file is recognized press Play to start. The firmware file will be loaded. After this, the disc will be ejected. Remove it!

Check version: you should be at 2.05. And playing SACD-R.

2) Insert disc labeled PIONEER with filename B4EA2096.BIN. The original filename is B4BA2136.BIN, located on DV-575A folder. To be sure here's hash information of file on final disc:

Nome: B4EA2096.BIN
Tamanho: 1552668 bytes (1516 KiB)
CRC32: 97966FFC
CRC64: 1698B319506A0DDA

When the firmware file is recognized press Play to start. The firmware file will be loaded. After this, the disc will be ejected. Remove it!

Check version: you should be at 2.13. And still playing SACD-R.

Thanks again!

Today I burnt my first DVD-A-R. It worked like a charm, flawless, and the player recognized it as a DVD-Audio.
And, for my surprise, digital output (optical Toslink) is functional and enabled on DVD-A! :LBI checked on my Denon AVR-2311CI OSD. It shows channels (2.0) and sample rate (48Khz), but not, unfortunately, word length. But Pioneer OSD shows 24bit.

With SACDs, only analog outputs work, as I expected. I thought that this would also apply to DVD-A.

I loved this, as my receiver doesn't have multi-channel analog inputs (nor pre-outs), only stereo. But, in this case, a multi-channel DVD-A could be played through optical output. If I could perform this with SACD would be great!

Hi I'm new to the forum. I know it's a little bit weird to follow a post of 15 yrs ago... just want to share my experience here. I just picked up a 578A as a back up for my universal Bluray player (mainly for SACD-R). The firmware was 2.05, I burned 8 CD-Rs with Nero and tried all the renaming methods, none worked. Then I gave a last try to a CD-RW burned with CDBurnerXP, it finally worked! Now it plays SACD-R and DVD-A perfectly. Thank you all for the info posted previously!

Hello good. First of all, thank everyone for the information that you have published. I want to apologize for English. I am Spanish and I have to use a translator. I know it is a very old thread. But I am interested in being able to play sacd-r and DVD-A on my dv-575A. I have been reading everything that you have published. And I really don't know where to start. I don't know what firmware version my Pioneer DVD has. I think it has never been updated. Let's see if a colleague can guide me to install version 2.13 that apparently works with sacd-r. Thank you very much in advance. All the best.
