anybody use an outboard decoder and 4 powered speakers?

i have a ultra delicious sansui qsd-1 and am trying to decide on an amp.

it was blasting through a pioneer 949x but as the world turns i have to move out.

the 949x and her 4 matched kenwoods purchased by some dude in the navy in the 70’s and given to me at his partners demand, has now moved to yet another final resting spot in an oak park basement.

Would 4 powered speakers would get the job done.
Or. Knott?

ps. What a years.

Powered speakers could get the job done, with compromises.
If you can live without tone controls and a remote, it all depends on the speakers and your room.

I just got a second pair of small JBL powered monitors for my man-cave project studio.
I hooked all four up today in quad and was pleasantly surprised at how good they sounded.
The speakers are in the corners of a largish room in classic quad position

I spun a few quad SACDs to adjust my setup.
Was so pleased with the result, I kept grabbing more AF and D-V favorites in all genres.
Listened for happily for hours.

In my case, I'm using a Behinger mixer on my desk in the sweet spot.
That puts eq and faders at my fingertips.

We sure get spoiled with remote controls.
Fifty years ago it was nothing to walk across the room to adjust volume.
We're supposed to do 8,000 steps a day, right? ;)
