hey Garry! how's it going? hope you're doing ok!!
Doing fine, although my live at home 24yo daughter is freaking out having to work on a High rise building site with next to no CV precautions, except the lift is now limited to 10 people from usual 20...

I pinged you a PM a while back with no reply. Did you turn off PMs (maybe too busy with what’s going down)?

That has got me thinking about the number of times I was 'escorted' out of the Catholic Girls School by the chief penguin (I was 17-ish) and the girls of the same age were penned in a block with tiny windows, so the only entrance to it was along a corridor past the headmistress's office which had floor to ceiling windows so she could observe. So you'd yell hello, the girls would distract the penguin by going and asking some theological question and you'd be smuggled in for a coffee. Oh the fun of being young! :devilish:
I had the 'Penguins' for NINE years at a parochial grammar school in Rye, New York. There were approximately 70 students in my third and fourth grade classes and my head literally hit the back wall. Our 7th grade Penguin was C R A Z Y and when she found out we were going to have a party for which I recorded hours of music on my archaic open reel tape recorder from American Bandstand, she hit the ceiling yelling NO BOY AND GIRL PARTIES.
She also expelled me from Sodality [don't ask] because I was disruptive and we found out later that she suffered a nervous breakdown.

Yes, those BRIDES of CHRIST were a motley crew but to this day, my penmanship is legible, my spelling still intact [I was after all THE spelling Bee champ] and I survived but only to watch my grades plummet from an A+ to a C- when I was enrolled in a parochial high school with the demented Priests and Brothers and a few lay teachers who comandeered what I often referred to as a Maximum Security PRISON!

The chief nun didn't like me, long hair and a non-Catholic! Frank Zappa was a big influence on me :ROFLMAO:

Funny... I'm often complimented on my penmanship, to which I sometimes respond with a quip about having had it "drilled" into me by those Catholic nuns in grade school, which is more accurate than it should be.

And in our class spelling bees, it always came down to me and one of the girls. I absolutely stank at sports, so these were the only times I ever got cheered on by my (male) classmates: "Go Jim! Beat the girls!"

After our 8th-grade graduation rehearsal, one other boy and I were pulled aside by our chief nun and notified that if we didn't get proper haircuts, we would not be allowed to attend the ceremony. Wavin' our freak flag in 1970 at age 12! :smokin(It would be a couple more years before I discovered Frank, heh.)

I won a spelling bee contest with the word LEMONADE! The other 2nd smartest girl in the class [who had a stutter] misspelled it LEMONAID. What Innocent times!

But I did know how to spell ANTIDISESTABLISHMENTARIANISM

The last 3 pages of this very thread have post after post of nothing related to the original topic. Mostly jokes and silly comments about bear anatomy. Why isn't the mod squad policing this thread like they supposedly are doing with all the others?
Since the main original complaint of this thread has been corrected (thanks again), the original topic has kind of evaporated. To me, the remainder just looks like a bunch of friends releasing some nervous energy during these trying times. I could be wrong , but maybe the mods are feeling something like this too, and are just letting us have our little rumpus room here.

This thread has actually taught me a thing or two. I have a better understanding of how all this off-topic bullshit can make the mods grind their teeth, for example. But I hope this works both ways - yes this thread has devolved into silliness, but perhaps there is some therapeutic benefit, no?

Maybe, if we all try to make it work, this sort of screwing around can be tolerated in certain areas - sort of like "Hamsterdam" in Season 3 of The Wire. :smokin

Was conversing with another member about this very thing "Disappearing Threads" and why. I didn't read this whole thing because it went off topic. I didn't even see the terrible one, I was talking about a different one that vanished got banished. QQ hasn't changed, I'll leave at that. Butting heads is better in person.
