I believe the GX-270D-SS replaced the GX-280D-SS in Akai's line in the late 70's; so there aren't as many around. The case construction is lighter than the 280D-SS, but the sonics are improved. Here's the sales brochure to introduce it.

i'd never heard of this one either til the last 2 years. seems like a really nice deck. if it took 10" reels i might go for one. might anyway. but yes, they're quite rare.

There's one on eBay right now. It's a bit "beat up", but it would be cool to have a "junior" 630D-SS!

DAMN! The above reel went for only $100. I would have grabbed it for that price. Just goes to show you that you have to bid to win!
