I had the Canadian edition but some 20 years ago sold all my Q8'S.

Hey Steely ....is this a hint of what's coming next from Dutton Vocalion ? I hope so.

Sadly not.

In years past, I purposely didn't sell tapes I had when I knew that a D-V SACD was on the way, both because I felt it was unethical to charge a fellow QQer a premium for a tape that would shortly be superseded by a better digital version, but also because I didn't want to give away what Mike Dutton was up to by regularly listing batches of tapes that ended up on SACD months later.

As you can see from my list of what's available, a great majority are titles that have appeared on SACD from D-V - if I'd sold them before that happened, I probably would've been able to get twice (or more) what I'm asking for now. As with everyone, I'm sure, the pandemic has hit my finances pretty hard, and I think we're probably a year away up here in Canada from any kind of normalcy. So, I made the decision to pre-emptively sell all my Q8's where I'm reasonably sure a master exists in a label vault somewhere (ie everything except the affected UMG vault fire labels) so I can maximize the amount of money I can get for them, in the hopes that they'll appear in some digital format down the road. I haven't been able to play any of them for more than 10 years, and I can't imagine that I'll have a playback setup any time soon, so the money would be most useful to me. I'm also considering selling my collection of Japanese CD-4's for the same reason.

I'm gonna leave this up for a week or two, and then everything is going on eBay. Shipping to the US is about 8 bucks for 1 tape, up to 16 tapes for $25, and escalates at a similar rate for more tapes. Shipping materials are on me.

Prices are somewhat negotiable on large orders. I can provide photos and/or condition descriptions of tapes on request, but I generally only bought good quality stuff.

Just for the record, I'm not selling any of these that have yet to be released on SACD because SACD issues are imminent - I'm selling all of my collection where I believe tapes still exist in the major label vaults, so I'm keeping stuff like ABC and A&M which may have perished in the UMG vault fire.

The majority of these tapes I bought between 10 and 20 years ago and I've never played, and I just came to a point where I thought 'what am I proving to anyone by lugging this stuff around for decades?' So it's for that reason (and that I need to keep funding my hookers and blow lifestyle) that I'm selling them.
Whatever Gets You Thru The Night....'s'alright, 's'alright.
