Hello this is "quadro king" from Germany.
I had started collecting quadraphonic devices in 1972. Up to now I think I have the biggest collection in Europe with more than 150 receivers, amplifiers. decoders, demodulators, tape decks, cassette recorders, 8 track recorders/players, ear speakers etc. Among many analogue devices I owe also digital sets like Sony & Yamaha quadro/8 track minidisc recorders, a Nagra quadro tape deck and Tascam 8 track recorders working with Hi8 audio cassettes. I have also established an archive with more than 10 000 pictures concerning hard- and software over the years.
Best regards to all quadro enthusiasts all over the world

Fortunately I have made pictures for documentation all over the time since 1972.

Wow! You certainly have a FANTASTIC collection, Quadro King. Although I also have 5 surround systems (6 including car), each of your systems are far more sophisticated than all but my main system. I am humbled.

Wiring can certainly be painful. I've done it several times, without a schematic. My main system has 36 pieces of gear. The wires look like an Octopus orgy! :yikes

Is that a Sony TC-854-4S reel? A wonderful Quad deck that plays NAB (10 1/2") reels. Have you found it necessary to perform repairs or modifications to it?

A couple Elcaset decks, too.

When I was in the hi-fi business, I've sold most of the US distributed pieces pieces you own. A few I own or have owned.

As to being single, I've been married and lived with a female roommate. No one had any problem with the gear taking up space, etc. It's a physical representation of who I am. My current guy has no problem with it, except not always understanding what each piece does, or understanding how to operate it.

It's great to have you here at QQ!

View attachment 15198Totally I have 16 open reel quad and 8 track tape decks. The most interesting ones are: Akai DX-400D-SS, Docorder 1140, Nagra DII (digital tape deck), Pioneer RT-2044, Sony TC-788-4, Sony TC-854-4 and Stellavox SQ7 Quadrasonic (portable). Nagra and Stellavox were produced in Switzerland and extremely expensive. Today Nagra is the surviving company but produces no tape decks/recorders any longer. Stellavox das disappeared years ago. I have tried to post more pictures in my answers, but I have failed up to now.View attachment 15197View attachment 15200View attachment 15201/.
I hope transfer works now. For repair I have engaged 3 specialists, who have never failed with any problems of all kind of devices.

Best regards

I had forgotten that Nagra made a Quad machine. I don't remember the Stellavox, but it looks very cool.

Have you had any reliability issues with the Dokorder decks? I was assistant manager of a hi-fi store in '73. We added Dokorder to our lines, and wound up returning them all within a month. In our store and our other twelve stores, many of the decks we received were defective. So, we returned the entire lot. Please forgive me if it seems I'm criticizing your gear. I'm simply curious to know if you've had issues. They were very beautiful looking tape decks.

Thanks for all the photos.

Quadro King, do you have any photos of your software? No doubt, that collection is equally impressive.

I have pictures of more than 400 covers. For me very interesting are the 21 UD-4 discs. But I have also many CD-4 and Matrix discs of many types like SQ, QS, Command Quadraphonic, EV-4 Ovation Quad Sound, QM Toshiba, QX and UHJ. But I have also may Q4 Tape, quadro 8 Track cassettes. Having played Violoncello I am more a classic fan but have naturally much software with "u-music".

the small Docorder causes no problems up to now. But it produces poor high fidelity because of background noise. The big brother had contact problems between the push buttons and the drive mechanism. But the problem was solved by one of my specialists. Since 2 years it works good but needs some hours of work per month. Weekly quite a number of tape decks and cassette recorders are on duty at the same time.

Attached you see pictures of matrix discs.

I think the quadro king gear posts need to be moved into their own thread. Too easily missed in the future.

I agree. I can't imagine hooking it all up. I took one look at the Russound QT1 and went back to 3 inputs. If we give Quadro King his own thread, should it have a "towel needed" warning? I for one would love to see how it was wired and what process was use to figure it all out. Seeing all that equipment is making me jones for my Akai GX630D-SS to come back from the repair shop. Thank you Quadro King for your pictures and welcome to QQ, I know you will be a valuable asset and source of info.

Quadro King's idea of creating a schematic, and then wiring is a sound one. Although a great idea, it's one I've never used for my own systems. I've wired all my own systems, hundreds of client's systems, and lots of demo gear in my stores. Usually, all I do is wire one piece at a time. Otherwise, it might be overwhelming. I have created both a schematic and instructions as to physical screen placement, wire runs, installation of wall plates, i/r repeaters and sensors, etc. for all the l custom a/v systems I designed. Dimensions and measurements of the gear and furniture were critical, as well. That way, my installers would know what to do.

Yes, Circular Vibes, Russound QT-1 can be most confusing. Gaylord Russell was a wonderful guy who looked and acted like a mad scientist. It is the best Quad piece I've ever owned or sold. My main system features both a QT-1, and a Zektor HDS-4.1.@:

Hi Linda! I have a Zektor as well as 2 DBX 200's. I had no problem wiring them up with a SQD 2020, QS-1, two 4 channel tape decks, a cassette deck, 4DD-5, Oppo BDP 83, two turntables, with possibility of adding more, but thought that a QT1 at $70 was too good to pass on. Besides, I found the switches on the DBX units to be flaky even with De-oxit. I needed a wee bit of simplicity for now as the receiver in my system is having issues, it has been to the doctor twice now, and will be going in again.

On a separate note, has anyone ever seen a magnetic cartridge cause phono stage breakdown? I use a JVC 4MD-20X with new old stock stylus. I find that all three of my receivers developed problems with the phono stage or CD4 demodulator, and 2 JVC 4DD-5's as well. I tried different turntables (2 Technics DD units). In stereo they are fine, but if I get reasonable CD4 playback, th system dies, i.e. goes staticy like a bad transistor or capacitor.

Hello Greg,

this is quadro king. As newcomer I need some help how to create an own thread. As a little gift I send a picture showing my 9.4 channel home cinema, vintage stereo devices and the sound studio at right side.

Wow. WOW. WOWOW!!

Welcome to the forum Quadro King. This is the kind of thread that makes me happy to have this place. It's nice to see a thread like this.

EXCELLENT!!

Welcome to the forum, Quadro King.
If the software collection is just half-impressive as the hardware one, since you're in Germany, maybe you could you add some light for quadraphonic italian releases? So far the real pieces (LP or Q8) i have found arrived mostly from Germany.

I did some pages on the topic years ago:

https://www.quadraphonicquad.com/forums/showthread.php?14491-Quad-in-Italy-a-(partial)-search

Hello Linda,

being moderator I do need your help. How can I open a new thread, because I should leave the tread "New Members only ". I would like to participate the interested community in my activities over the last 42 years. Then I will upload lists of all my quadro devices. And I could better answer on specified questions.

Attached you will see interesting device made by Clarion.
