I'm sure with ALL the cancelations they received [I AM among the 'guilty' party], they might've had a rude awakening that NO SURROUND .... NO DEAL! Will still anxiously await reviews. So if it's jolly 5.1 remix, I may reorder but probably without the limited edition special pop up packaging.......for that, there's Viagra!
Again, if there are waiting and sending the dvd later why not make it what they intended - a 5.1 mix? There's no big rush....if SW can delay his album until Jan 2021 then so can Rick.

We'll have to see what appears, I suppose, but maybe they didn't get very many cancellations when the lack of 5.1 was announced. So they felt that lots of video, etc. was a much better fan-pleaser than a 5.1 mix. I'm personally sad if that's the case* but I don't blame them for providing what seems to be popular, both for democratic and commercial reasons. It's also quite possible that a) there will be a surprise 5.1 mix or b) they still wanted to do it, but Covid was still making it difficult in some way.

*Sad not just for this release but for what it says about possible future surround mixes.

I've seen no evidence that the DVD was intended to be 5.1, hi-res, or anything but a "making of" companion to the redbook CD.

Because it wasn't specifically announced that it would NOT be 5.1, naturally that triggered wild speculation from the usual gang of chattering monkeys here.
🐒🐵🙈🙉🙊
Wishful thinking with no substance or basis in fact.

Perhaps go back and read the first few pages of this thread. It was indeed intended to have surround, and was pre-sold as having surround. Rick confirmed it when asked.

When the virus hit the surround hadn't been done yet and was ditched resulting in several here requesting refunds. I chose not to as I wanted the package anyway, and I still say they just ought to have delayed the whole thing and done what they'd intended (and pre-sold as).

And I had NO qualms whatsoever in cancelling my pre~order as I felt $42 for a CD and a DVD making of was expensive and could do without the fancy schmancy pop up packaging.

I do hope at some juncture Rick sees fit to remix the album in surround and release it as a stand alone hi res BD~A as Alan Parsons has done with those exceptional APP BD~A 5.1 remixes......at down to earth prices!

From the samples I heard, Rick's latest album BEGS for the surround treatment, IMO.

FYI - The Red Planet . (FAQs about the release.)
The surround sound question is high up the list - maybe they get asked about surround a lot? :LB
But the curt answer doesn't leave much room for hoping there will be 5.1. 😞
But they say high res might be available, so you never know... 🤔 🙂

I'm sure 'someone' can use their wonderful technology and up-mix this to 5.1 in the near future ;)

I apologize for the snarky tone of my post, wasn't trying to pick a fight.
Your observations don't jive with my recollection, but of course reasonable people can differ.

The 4th & 9th posts on page one, which I did review before commenting, seem to indicate doubts about a 5.1 mix on February 11th.
If that was refuted somewhere later, I missed it.
I don't hang on every word of Grumpy Old Rick's social media musings.

My old brain is probably suffering from a vitamin deficiency since I've had to give up craft beer. 🍻
My A1C number got too high, a couple of pints and my pancreas reacts like I ate a loaf of bread.
Had to switch to gin on ice with seltzer water on the side for the summer, making me cranky.

I'm tired of the climate of grumpy old men asserting half-remembered or made-up facts with exaggeration and hyperbole, and doubling down when they get pushback.
I don't want to be part of that, and will try to watch my tone.

And now we'll have OOP collector's items.

The first 1,000 units of vinyl come in 180-gram red double vinyl, signed and numbered, in a special “Pop-Up” album cover [SOLD OUT].
The first 2,000 units of the CD edition signed and numbered, in a special “Pop-Up” CD album cover [LESS THAN 100 REMAIN].
These collectors items are sure to sell out quickly, fans are advised to pre-order to avoid disappointment, or worst still having to buy copies from auction sites.

The Red Planet

Don't disagree, surround collecting is playing the looooonnnnggg game.
Cheers, have one for me. 🍺
:hi

Yes, even though I cancelled, this morning I got 3 emails telling me it is dispached and 2 emails about the missing DVD, maybe I'll get 3 in the post?
Same here. I cancelled long ago, when they removed the comment about surround sound on the sales blurb. And, I'm getting all the emails saying it's coming. haha...maybe they'll send it to me anyway?

Mine arrived today as well, I thought they were supposed to be signed as well, can't remember!

DUNC got PUNKED! It WAS supposed to be signed by Rick...thus the premium pricing!
