I got my copy of Zwolf(12) yesterday, have only had one listen so far but I don't think people would be disappointed in this. A couple of songs remind me of peter gabriel from the 80's and this album has got a big sound to it as many songs are very orchestrated with strings etc and Ronald Prent spreads the sounds out for the most part very well. Vocals are centred with with bass drums coming from front and back speakers keyboard and strings etc and when doubling up vocals its coming from rears.
Wish I could find the Mensch Sacd for a similar price as I would be all over that, here's a link for what I got, I got my copy from amazon.com used and it was in perfect condition from a german reseller.

The CD/DVD "12" from H. Grönemeyer is a bargain, especially if you live in germany.
I only listened to some songs, it`s a great 5.1 mix, peter described it very good in the last post.

But the "Mensch" SACD sounds even better! And i don`t think Hi-Resolution vs. DTS96/24 is the reason for this.

I was writing to Jon Urban, because i had an idea:

I bought a second SACD of Herbert Grönemeyer`s "Mensch" at Ebay.
I would like to send it around the world if at least 10 members from this forum would participate.
Everyone could listen to it and vote in the poll (that does not exist right now), then send it to the next member.

When it comes back to me in germany, we make a raffle for the participating test listeners and the winner gets the SACD (that went around the world) from me !
If our moderator gives its approval i will tell you all conditions.

My risk: If the disc get lost on its way, that may happen, i will not be angry ! (If it comes back, i give it away as price)

Your risk: You have to pay the shipping fee to send it to the next member !

Why i do would like to do this: I think this is one of the better surround mixes, but less people know it. There is no poll for it up to now.
Buying it on Ebay is very expensive. I bought a lot of expensive discs just because i was curious how they sound (for example: "Avalon" SACD), then sold them again, because music or mix were not worth the high price i paid for it. I think this way it`s cheaper just to try one of those rare OOP discs.

excellent idea matz... i'm involved in a 'loaner' program of sorts with a friend here in the US... it's an AWESOME way to hear stuff i wouldn't/couldn't buy...as well as a great way to discover which discs i can't live without and need to add to my collection!

In trying to find out some more information on the over the top metal band MANOWAR came across a couple of other names in this short article,Dana Winner and Frank Galan.

http://www.highfidelityreview.com/manowar-releases-first-heavy-metal-multichannel-sacd.html

What are the titles by them that Ronald Prent did in surround?

from sacd net see one is listed, not sure of others. So are these also artists worth tracking down.

Dana Winner: 10 jaar het allerbeste

Great detective work! (y)

I wasn't aware Ronald Prent had mixed the Dana Winner SACDs.. I have a few of them, including the 10 Jaar het allerbeste you mention, it's a shame most of them are extremely hard to find nowadays for decent money, they are excellent imho.

Get the SACD Warriors of the World; it is near perfect IMO. Only change I would make is raising the level of the vocals, which are utterly sublime!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I wrote that article for High Fidelity Review back in the day. I see they are reprinting them now. Somehow my author credit was removed. Odd.

Dana Winner is a singer from Belgium that has several albums in Multichannel SACD. It turns out that her husband is Wilfried Van Baelen, the co-founder of Galaxy Studios and more recently the inventor of Aero-3D the 11.1 Channel, Object-based Multichannel movie sound format that competes with Dolby Atmos. (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galaxy_Studios)

That explains her albums being recorded and mixed at the same studio that Ronald Prent worked at during that time. A small world!
The Dana Winner SACDs are easy listening covers of top Pop songs of the day. You'll enjoy the performances.

Auro 3D 11.1 is exactly the opposite of being object-based! It's actually channel based. Check out the following link for the complete run down of how it all works. http://www.barco.com/~/media/Downloads/White%20papers/2012/WhitePaperAuro%20111%20versus%20objectbased%20sound%20in%203Dpdf.pdf?

If someone is looking for this title by Guano Apes, its a good mix and a not so bad price right now for a used copy.
Did not know anything about this band and got a used copy of this 5.1 but its pretty good pop-punk sound on this, the female vocalist is very good as well.

I would definitely contact the seller to confirm it IS the SACD. That price is almost too good to be true.

I just ordered it, looks like the sacd (see picture) if not, it's not expensive for a normal cd :).
