Oh but it will be a smoldering coaster. Or an ashtray.

Broodingly bad assed but think of it as replacing your worn out RBCD coasters with genuine BD~Vs, Jeff. Ordered it anyway ..... love BAD cinema! Cheaper than a Whopper with Cheese! But lo and behold, to counterbalance this inequity, JUST received a batch of 12 remastered BD~V Cinema Classics from TWILIGHT Time Movies which is sadly closing shop for slightly less than a Surf and Turf feast at a somewhat upscale restaurant.

Alone Together - Album Sharp at 450.jpg

20% Off Album of the Week - Alone Together

Our Album of the Week is Alone Together with the Enrico Pieranunzi Quartet on the Challenge Jazz label. This is a DSD 64 Stereo and DSD 64 Multichannel Jazz release that features Italian pianist Enrico Pieranunzi with the Belgian guitarist Philip Catherine, the Dutch bassist Hein Van de Geyn, and American drummer Joe LaBarbera plus Guest trumpeter Eric Vloeimans (on 3 tracks). They focus on a dozen time-tested standards from the Great American Songbook. The songs on the album include Speak Low, My Foolish Heart, What Is This Thing Called Love?, Sweet And Lovely, You've Changed, Just One Of Those Things, Alone Together, Tenderly, How Deep Is The Ocean, You Don't Know What Love Is, I Didn't Know What Time It Was, and Moonglow.

Although creative music fans from the United States are fond of calling jazz 'America's true art form,’ the music has been international since at least 1919 when the Original Dixieland Jazz Band caused a sensation during their tour of England. There have been a countless number of top European jazz musicians since that time with guitarist Django Reinhardt in the 1930's (along with violinist Stepahne Grappelli) emerging as probably the first European jazz innovator.

Dave Nathan from All That Jazz says "The session is a bit of a departure by leader and bop artist Enrico Pieranunzi in that it is devoted to the exploration of standard material. This is due to the presence of one of the more lyrical guitar players around these days, former wunderkind Catherine.

Pieranunzi does not leave behind his use of modern jazz figures to give new luster to these standards. The pianist, like one of his influences Bill Evans, manages to combine elegance with a thoughtful demeanor that is picked up by each member of the group. There's nothing raucous nor harsh present, just quiet rumination in, around, over-under, and the melody line gently tweaking chord structures as they move along.

On "My Foolish Heart", for example, Pieranunzi and Catherine exchange choruses recreating this tune into their own melodic masterpiece. It's also an occasion for pizzicato bass by Hein Van de Geyn. Staying with the script is the contemplative trumpet of Eric Vloeimans who taps the Miles Davis style adding a few twists of his own on the title tune, "Alone Together". Tracks such as "Just of Those Things" help to dispel the notion that Europeans can't swing.

Of course, the prime mover behind the up-tempo stuff is American drummer, Joe LaBarbera getting considerable help from Catherine. In fact, the guitarist is as much responsible for making this an attractive release as any other member of the group. In any event, Alone Together is top of the line small group jazz and is recommended."

You can buy Alone Together for 20% Off through June 19, 2020, at the Native DSD Music Store with offer code AOTW at checkout.

Jacintha Flash Sale - 25% Off All Her DSD Albums

Over the weekend, NativeDSD Listener Bob Alexander posted a note on our NativeDSD on Facebook site raving about the DSD Albums recorded by Jacintha on the Groove Note Records label. He said:

"Every one of her Groove Note releases on DSD is a to die for audiophile quality recording. Must have!

I've had all of Jacintha's NativeDSD Downloads long enough that I declare a winner. First off, every one of these DSD releases is beyond superb. I give the (slim) nod to her first album "Here's to Ben: A Vocal Tribute to Ben Webster.

You have no idea what you are missing or what I might be saying until you download these Jacintha albums on DSD. You can thank me later."

So we decided to help all of our listeners take Bob Alexander's challenge. NativeDSD is putting all of Jacintha's DSD releases on sale for 25% Off in a Flash Sale. Use offer code JACINTHA to get the savings. But act quickly as the sale ends on Friday, June 19, 2020.

And do let us know which Jacintha album in DSD you like the best. You will have an enjoyable time saving and comparing during this Flash Sale!

20% Off Album of the Week - A Top 5 DSD Best Seller!

Brahms: String Quartet No. 3 & String Quintet in F Minor performed by pianist Kirill Gerstein and the Hagen Quartet from Myrios Classics is our NativeDSD Album of the Week.

Kirill Gerstein (born 23 October 1979) is a Russian-American pianist. He is the sixth recipient of the Gilmore Artist Award. An American citizen since 2003, Gerstein divides his time between the United States and Germany and is currently a professor of piano at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart.

After decades of playing together, the members of the Hagen Quartet are at the apex of their interpretative careers. Tonal and rhythmic coordination is totally effortless. The “baton passing”, from one instrument to the next, is impossibly smooth. The four members of the ensemble truly play like a single organism.

At the same time, they still share with their listeners a tremendous pleasure of exploring together all the corners of the repertoire. Together with Kirill Gerstein, they are a genius couple.

The Hagen Quartet performs on instruments made by Antonio Stradivari, known as the "Paganini" Quartet, generously on loan from the Nippon Music Foundation. Kirill Gerstein plays a Steinway & Sons D-274 Piano, Serial Number 573968.

Brahms: String Quartet No. 3 & String Quintet in F Minor is available at 20% Off with code AOTW through June 26, 2020. It is available in Stereo and Multichannel DSD (up to DSD 256), DXD and Stereo DSD 512 at the Native DSD Music store. This is a DSD Exclusive, Not Available on SACD release.

You beat me to it! Yes: since last fall, Sono Luminus has periodically run some fabulous sales on their back catalogue. This one emphasizes American Music--and $7.99 Blu-Rays. I can vouch for the titles by ACME, Jane Ira Bloom, Inscape, the LA Percussion Quartet, and Skylark.

If you're not familiar with the label, Sono Luminus focuses primarily but not exclusively on "New Music," and produces immersive audiophile recordings, comparable to those on the 2L label. (Some, like the LA Percussion Ensemble discs, also sound not just immersive, but discrete.) They were an early adopter of Auro-3D and Atmos, although many of the mixes on these sale discs top out at 7.1, and some, I hasten to add, are stereo RBCDs. But for eight bucks, people should definitely take a flyer and expand their horizons!
