A relative newbie here, I listen with a Sony blu ray BDP-S790 played through a Yamaha av receiver HTR-2071, I read quite a lot here about sampling rates so maybe someone can help me, I have included pics of the settings on one of my discs which is 96/24, it does show that on the Sony but only shows 48 on the Yamaha, on some discs the Yamaha does show 96 which confuses me a great deal, is there a way I can force the Yamaha to play at 96khz all the time since it is capable? Thanks in advance

I have a Panasonic BDT500 that requires some adjustments to the settings to output 14/96 through digital out.

The manual says:

PCM Down Conversion
Select how to output audio with a sampling
frequency of 96 kHz for the PCM output from the
DIGITAL AUDIO OUT.
≥ If “On” is selected, the signals that are
converted to 48 kHz are output.
≥ If “Off” is selected, and the connected
equipment does not support 96 kHz, the sound
will not be output normally.
≥ Signals are converted to 48 kHz despite the
settings in the following cases:
– when the signals have a sampling frequency
of 192 kHz
– when the disc has copy protection
– when “BD-Video Secondary Audio” is set to “On”

I wrote on the manual:

High Clarity Sound must be activated in Setup and in Options for 24/96 output.

Maybe you player has a similar scheme.

Good luck.

Thanks guys, it would appear that I only get 96khz if I play in stereo, playing in any surround mode is 48khz, maybe this is the normal?

I can't find full specs on the HTR-2071, but being a budget receiver, it may not handle the more advanced flavors of DTS and Dolby. Try setting your Blu-ray player to output PCM instead of bitstream audio and see if that gets you 96kHz.

The blu ray player does output 96khz, obviously the receiver is the problem, I might need to spend a bit more although I have discovered if I listen to LPCM it plays at 96khz, it only seems to be DTS that is a problem, thanks
