Probably the best way to figure that out is to study the schematics of the circuits they were used in. If the pinouts are the same and voltages also, you may have something. If they are both used on the same type board, good chance.
However, there is always risk in swapping chips around. I would install chip sockets, so if you had to put back the old chip, you wouldn't have to unsolder it again. There is always the danger of a static discharge or overheating to zap the chip. Good luck!
