Looking at a Sansui QR-4500 4 channel receiver to drive an Akai GW-270D SS 4channel R2R. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with the QR-4500?

It will sound as good as any Sansui quad receiver and will be good for discrete sources like your tape deck or an Oppo. Where it will lack over later models will be the matrix decoding. If you plan on using a Surround Master or vintage outboard decoders, you will be fine as well. Check out Hi Fi Engine for the specs and see if the output will be enough for you.
