It's the 45th Anniversary of the release of Jackson Brown's classic "Late for the Sky" album, an album with no hit singles, but surely one of his best albums of all time. The lyrics and vocal performance alone are worthy of "hit" status.

Of course it was issued in quad on CD-4 LP and Quad 8 Tape, but sadly never released on quad reel. (What was up with that, Asylum Folks?)

Anyway, it sure would be nice to have seen a 45th Anniversary BluRay audio release with the remastered quad mix on there. I mean, how much work would that be for a record label to crank out? Jackson has always seemed to be surround friendly, and has a surround grammy for his DVD-A of "Running on Empty".

Talk about powerful lyrics, this passage has always been one of my favorites.
Now this is how you should write lyrics:

Looking through some photographs I found inside a drawer
I was taken by a photograph of you
There were one or two I know that you would have liked a little more
But they didn't show your spirit quite as true
You were turning 'round to see who was behind you
And I took your childish laughter by surprise
And at the moment that my camera happened to find you

There was just a trace of sorrow in your eyes

Was she sad to see that it was him behind her and not someone else, or was she just sad?

I haven't listened to that album in ages, only have the LP & CD, I'll have to give it a play through the SM2

Bit of a coincidence, my wife and I listened to his entire Running On Empty DVDA last night and we were both blown away by his lyrics and the surround mix.

It’s a shame more of Jackson’s albums weren’t released as they were recorded during quad’s peak.

He was born in Germany. I never knew that (came up on my screen while playing the album)

One of my very favorite surround albums (and I've heard a lot!) - maybe one day it'll be released digitally...

There are so many instances of great Jackson Browne lyrics.

like these from Your Bright Baby Blues:

It's so hard to come by
That feeling of peace
This friend of mine said,
"Close your eyes and try a few of these"
I thought I was flying like a bird so far above my sorrow
But when I looked down I was standing on my knees
Now I need someone to help me
Someone to help me, please

these from The Pretender:

I'm going to find myself a girl
Who can show me what laughter means
And we'll fill in the missing colors
In each others paint by number dreams
And then we'll put our dark glasses on
And we'll make love until our strength is gone
And when the morning light comes streaming in
We'll get up and do it again
Get it up again

Just awesome!
