Hey, that's probably one of our fools trying to pawn off the set after snagging the surround BluRay!

Clint, the other day, AmazonUS had one listed as LIKE NEW, SEALED [an oxymoron, IMO] for the same price. Probably RESEALED.

I know that some of them are actually NEW....not just resealed...the description is probably just for their protection...some probably have exterior damage to the outer package or other minor problems...they wait until they have enough in the supply chain to list them...if I wasn't in a hurry for that specific title I would take that route...because there is nothing to lose...it gets treated like a new product purchase by amazon...if you don't want it...it can be returned and they will take care of the shipping costs..the only downside is that you have to wait until they list them...it could be 6 months or a year before they do...if this wasn't the Beatles I'd have waited...
I'm sure this is the case. I mean, I had purchased 2 copies of Pepper. Brand new. My backup copy sat on the shelf for quite a while. Eventually, the shrink wrap pulled away from the bottom due to the sharp edges of the cardboard sleeve. Additionally, the outer sleeve had a slight crinkle in it due to the sheer weight of the product sitting on the shelf.
If I were Amazon, would I call that "like new" Maybe....just to be safe.
oops
It said "factory sealed". If it ain't, back it goes. Not too worried.
amazon continues to puzzle me with these price changes.....at 9:36 this morning the price was$67.91...so now at 2:10 the price is $71.22...they must have a computer program controlling these incremental price changes...it must be a percentage oriented program, the puzzling part is that sometimes I see raises that are only a few pennies on some titles(not this one)..so how do you program price changes that are that small...
Wow. Just got the box set with 5.1 and am so disappointed, to the point of being pissed off about buying it. I have the Love DVD-A which was really great surround & was really looking forward to hearing Sgt Peppers done by Giles Martin. I have 3 big complaints -
My biggest single complaint is whoever did the authoring of the Blu-ray & DVD is an absolute idiot!
Put the disc in and immediately starts playing & 10 dB louder (!) than my normal setting plus plays stereo. There is NO starting menu to select which track or sound format to listen to, NONE whatsoever. Plus however it's authored, 2 players out of 2 would not pause/fast forward, skip tracks in the when Audio is chosen. I tried 2 players, Oppo 105 and 205, and neither one could pause, stop, or skip tracks when Audio is chosen in the binary choice menu (Audio & Video - that's all there is), what's weirder is when you hit Top Menu, that changes the track. That's FU disc authoring. When you change to Video, you see thumbnails of the music videos corresponding to each song (and not in the album order). In the Video portion there is a Main Menu and if you select that, there is a submenu for Video Setup and THERE's where you find selecting DTS-MA, TrueHD, LPCM Stereo (no mention of the resolution or 5.1 vs 2 ch). But the menu says the format selection ONLY applies to the music videos! Sure makes sense to select AUDIO formats under the VIDEO section
Somehow I managed to select a format that seems to apply to the audio only tracks but in all my years of collecting thousands of movies, music on DVD-A, Blu-ray Audio & SACD, I have never encountered this FU'd a menu before. Seriously, I thought the discs were defective but it's the fubared convoluted way the menu is designed.
My 3rd complaint is with the mixes themselves. They do NOT equal "Love". The surround is really underwhelming to say it kindly, reminds me of just ambience shunted to the surrounds in many movies or classical music. The surround channels are barely noticeable which is not how Love sounds at all. Plus this set seems to be a victim of the "loudness wars", both the DTS-MA & TrueHD sound compressed, way too loud (boosted by about 10dB vs movies, CD's and other mixes played with the same prepro/amps/speakers). Highs & bass balance seem off, highs seem thin, shrill even, maybe a victim of the compression.
Frankly I regret buying this as the plain-jane CD in the last Beatles remastered box set of all their albums sounds better, even if it is the fake stereo. I also still have the original LP with pseudo-stereo which I bought when it 1st came out so have listened to this album many times since I was a teen
The filler material, book, outtake CD's etc is OK to meh. The main attraction should have been the 5.1 tracks and if it takes 20 minutes to screw around figuring out how to use this mess of a menu, that's not how to enjoy this classic music! The label should be ashamed. I haven't played the mono mix CD yet - maybe that will partially compensate for the idiotic way the BD/DVDs have been authored.
Count me disgusted for falling for the hype of this over-priced set with poorly designed discs & un-inspired sound quality. IMO, this box set was a waste of $125. Not anywhere close to the quality of the Pink Floyd Immersion sets, or any work by Steven Wilson - solo, his Jethro Tull, Yes & King Crimsons etc.
Giles & the label are probably laughing all the way to the bank for this poor/mediocre effort.
OK, the authoring was FUBAR!!!
But I really don't get all the hate this MCH mix is getting...
Of course, if LOVE had never been released I am positive this wouldn't have gotten such bad reviews, but LOVE did set a very high standard!
Personally I do not think it is a BAD mix, AAMOF , it's quite good, it's just that we got spoiled rotten!!!
We should be thankful we GOT THIS ...who'dhavethunk????
At least it was not JG's DSOTM fiasco....(hiding behind the doghouse)
Yes, KAP, it's listenable and sounds better than any RBCD version ever could but one can ONLY imagine what a Steve Wilson and/or Elliot Scheiner would've accomplished with the Sgt. Pepper Remix? I just listened to SW's 5.1 remix of ROXY MUSIC and it was simply stunning. Sounds like it was recorded yesterday and how Wilson integrates the fronts and rears and accomplishes a seamless organic soundfield is far far better than what Giles Martin, sans his father's input, has ever accomplished. Even the Criterion Hard Day's Night BD 5.1 'remix' [what remix...it was double stereo] was disappointing.
