I was referring, in post #11 above, to more contemporary recordings conceived from the get-go in multichannel rather than remixing them at a later date.
As Kal notes above, recordings conceived of for release in Surround Sound aren't just in the classical field.
You also find this with live concert recordings (released on SACD, BluRay, and music downloads) and surround sound releases in musical genres including Acoustic, Vocal and Jazz as well as Classical Music.
A case in point would be the award-winning album by the Yuko Mabuchi Trio from Yarlung Records.
This album was recorded live at a Jazz Concert with an audience to DSD 256 stereo and DSD 256 surround sound by two sets of recording engineers recording and mixing in real time.
The DSD 256 Surround Sound version of the album has the trio in the front channels with the surround channels used for hall ambiance and audience applause at the end of each track. Very nice.
