Maybe somebody could answer this question for me.
My Akai reel-to-reel has a strange whine or hum in the background when powered on and the Tape/Source button in the TAPE position.
This hum/whine seems to change with motor speed. At high speed, it's a whine, at low speed it's a hum.
It ONLY does this when using the DIN connectors on the back.
and...
It ONLY does this when both of the DIN connectors are plugged in. Remove either of the plugs and the hum/whine instantly goes away.
This phenomena doesn't happen if I connect the player to my receiver using the RCA cords. Sort of leads me to thinking there's something up with the DIN cables. A bad ground perhaps?
