Over all the Pearl Jam 8 and Queen a 9.....IMHO....both very worthy of purchase at a good price....Not sure about a price on the Pearl Jam at the moment.....but when I bought it I got it right from the Pearl Jam web site.....and it is the rarer version 3 Blu-Ray Disc set.....happy searching.
 
Full Metal Jacket 4K:
1. I watched this last night and it towers above the previous BD release. Texture in the fabric on uniforms, stray bugs flying around, colours - everything is spectacular.
2. Most of the hiss is gone from the audio but it's still present in some scenes.
3. I seem to remember that the previous BD release was very front-heavy except for the score. This is similar but I noticed more discreet surround moments this time (e.g., off-screen jet flies from right to left surrounds in one scene). I don't think they've done anything to the surround mix so it could just be the speaker upgrade/levels I've changed since last time I've seen it. Tons of punchy lows, particularly from some gunshots which is something I never noticed on the previous BD.
4. Such a great flick. Well worth the 4K upgrade.
 
pulled out this old DVD--a really enjoyable and immersive 5.1 DTS soundtrack!

The musical numbers are wonderful and the whole sonic experience is great--the surrounds seem to be active throughout, with nice touches especially in the outdoor scenes helping me to get lost in the film. I had forgotten how good this is! Maybe it's time for an upgrade . . . ?

Even though I just ordered Lennon....Gimme Some Truth, Waters....Us & Them.....and Mason's....Saucerful today on the special 3 for the price of 2....and they've already been shipped:)

This 4K UHD release looks and sounds at least as good as it did when i saw it back in '79 (if memory serves!)

Although it sounds great from the get-go, once Colonel Kilgore enters, the Dolby Atmos soundtrack really takes off! I feel part of the action throughout--verisimilitude, dude! And my subwoofer was having much fun! A total immersion stunning upgrade from my Redux blu-ray!

Unlike others I don't have myriad of streaming sources, just Netflix & VUDU. The latter is really under rated as it costs nothing per month just by rent/purchase & over all better image quality than Netflix & 7.1 if the original movie has it.

Anyways I had quite an interest in trying to compare codecs & bit rates between the two. There was an abundance of info for VUDU on Wiki & nothing worthwhile on Netflix. The most I've ever read on Netflix tech data is in that article you linked. When playing reg 1080 HD on Netflix I would hit info button on my Oppo remote & was surprised that Netflix was really low. The max I've ever seen for action seen is 8mbs & that includes audio and that is even below max DVD bit rate which is ~ 10 mbs. Sometimes it runs an average of 4 mbs.

VUDU tends to run about 12mbs on the average... there's a few ups & downs but it holds pretty steady.

That article on Netflix convinces me that they are in a how low can you go game & from a business stand point I see why. But it's also an explanation why a Blu-Ray disc, reg HD or 4K HD will always look and probably sound better.

It is a symptom of the real problem...the infrastructure in the US for internet is pretty inept...I doubt it could be fixed in the majority of the US...they are left to developing compression algorithms...that's why I chuckle when I hear people mention 8k....they can't even do 4k on a wide basis...

You got that right Clinty. I have been watching a lot of "4K" programming on Netflix and it does apply HDR and from what I've seen on my LG OLED set, it really doesn't look like it's been compressed at all. But I'm sure it is due to US limited bandwidth algorithms.

As far as 8K ...... OVERKILL unless you have a stadium sized screen in your man cave.........and if you live in Dubai, you probably DO!
