“Away”. Highly recommended series on Netflix. Good Atmos mix, especially during nicely choreographed action scenes in space. “Away” portrays the first human mission to Mars. Excellent cast including Hillary Swank as the commander. Characters are deeply written and believable. Here’s hoping for a season 2!

I enjoyed it also, that last show was great IMO, and lots of cool music in the show like Joni Mitchell etc. Only thing (well a couple of things) but, room for Christmas decorations on a space ship 🚀 nah, not bloody likely!

TIPPIN' the Scale with TIPPI....in no particular pecking order! Highdefdigest's MUST OWN REVIEW of Hitchcock's THE BIRDS in Native UHD4K.

SO frustrating to read that this release is NOT in Surround! MONO!?! Especially given that Psycho was given a multi-channel upgrade--GRRR!

While the reviewer and myself share your disappointment, Komrade Clement, the good news is the Technicolor negative has been impeccably restored so that Tippi's bleached blond hair and ruby red lips are suitably aglow and the MONO elements so robust that a simple flip of your receiver's DSP switch will send the monaural signal to ALL channels and surround you with squawking fowls🦅🐦to your ❤'s content!

And how do I know this: well, a little birdie told ME! 🦜

And some Tippi Trivia [for you Clement]:

Well, yes . . . obviously! It's just that i prefer when you recommend--in a thread titled "Surround Movies"--releases that actually have surround mixes! For example, based on your recommendation, i picked up

and it is GREAT fun (another film i hadn't seen since its theatrical release) with an active surround mix that puts me in the midst of the action and really makes the musical numbers come alive (i especially enjoyed JB in church and Aretha in the diner!).

P.s. Thanks for an enjoyable--albeit harrowing--trip through Tippi's feline phase!

Well you'll be thrilled to know that the newly remastered Native UHD4K version of Hitchcock's VERTIGO with blond bombshell Kim Novak DOES have a DTS:X SURROUND track but unfortunately, REAR WINDOW does NOT [Mono only].

Yea, maybe True, but for a 3 year Mission maybe an exception. :)

BTW, for those who own the OPPO 205 Universal Player, OPPO did, via firmware update, upgrade the unit to decode BOTH HDR10+ and Dolby Vision for UHD 4K discs. Too bad they're not manufacturing them anymore. Solid Unit!

Yea but too bad my Sony 4K TV doesnt do any flavor of HDR or Dolby Vision

I was intrigued to learn today that A24 film studios has released an exclusive 171 Director's Cut of MIDSOMMAR in Native UHD4K [HDR10/Dolby Vision/5.1] via their website. Unfortunately, all current copies are SOLD OUT but A24 is planning to restock the item. A brief description of Content:

Midsommar Director's Cut: Collector's Edition
$45.00

The first Collector's Edition from A24, Ari Aster's 171-minute director's cut will look as crisp on your bookshelf as it does in 4K Ultra HD.
Blu-ray disc comes enclosed in a clothbound, Hårga-yellow slipcase, accompanied by an illustrated 62-page booklet featuring original artworks from the film by Ragnar Persson and a foreword by Martin Scorsese.

BTW, the original cut of MIDSOMMAR ran 147 minutes.

Ashame Jeff that your SONY doesn't recognize Dolby Vision nor HDR10+ as they're significant upgrades to 4K. But don't feel too badly, my newly acquired but NOT YET INSTALLED SONY 3D Laser projector probably won't do them either as Dolby Vision/HDR are indigenious ONLY to FLATSCREEN MONITORS and NOT PROJECTORS.

Edit: Some 4K projectors can process HDR but NOT Dolby Vision.

Coming in December from Kino Lorber in GLORIOUS MONO [Sorry, Clem] from Director Frank Perry [David & Lisa, The Swimmer, Last Summer, Mommie Dearest], a landmark film featuring Carrie Snodgress, Richard Benjamin and Frank Langella [his debut film]:

Carrie Snodgress went on to win the Golden Globe Award [Best Actress in a drama] for her role and was also nominated as Best Actress at 1971's Academy Awards and later left Hollywood and became Rock Legend Neil Young's paramore and the mother of his son Zeke!

wOw! a HUGE thank you to @Sonik Wiz for recommending this masterpiece

this is a brilliant re-envisioning of the same thematic territory that Satoshi Kon covers in Perfect Blue, offering a completely different take--the opposite side of the same coin! An amazing love letter to Japanese cinema, Art, creativity--a must-see! But since this thread is titled "Surround movies," let me also note that the 5.1 mix is equally brilliant, presenting an immersive and engaging and thoughtful sound design that really enhances the viewing experience. I can't wait to watch this one again!

It's a brilliant story & concept executed just as well. A tiny bit confusing at first but when you catch on it's amazing. And yes the surround sound is better than I would have expected. I think elsewhere I said it's just few minutes into the film that the 1st surround sound effect had me jumping in my seat.

Also intriguing is that after Kon's directorial debut, Perfect Blue, his next intended movie was Paprika. He got part way through that project when the animation studio he was using, Rex Entertainment, went bankrupt. So that's how Millennium Actress became his next movie & the bankruptcy & closing of the fictional Ginei Studios was the genesis for the interview & all that follows.

Fathom Events presented this last October & I got to see it in a real movie theater. It was right after that I knew I had to get it on Blu-Ray. Sadly with Kon's such early passing he might be the only anime director whose entire filmography I could afford to buy...

Edit: I really like the links & bonus material you post when making a review!
