Never heard of it before this post. But I know Hot Fuzz and Shaun. Seems a connection to PAUL? Most likely I'll be watching this on VUDU tomorrow night. Thanks 4-ears & Clem!

I disliked Rise of Skywalker with the passion of a thousand sighs but this week when I spotted the Target Exclusive 4k version on clearance for $10, I decided to finish off the shelf. I’m no completist but they grabbed me by my inner action figure. The impulse buy was strong with the Schwartz.

So, last night I popped it in and, after the crawl and Palpatine’s throaty monologue, I tapped the Center Channel in my AVR app to turn it off hoping to enjoy the overall ATMOS. Taking in the production itself was — for me — surprisingly engaging. A true music or music and effects track would obviously be better but it was worth the $10.

So I FINALLY cracked open my Hitchcock 4K set late last night and 'beheld' the ASTOUNDING restoration of Alfred's VERTIGO with Jimmy Stewart and Kim Novak. The colors dazzled, Bernard Hermann's iconic score was refreshed in DTS:X from newly rediscovered Stereo elements and my cinematic palette is now lusting after the other three NATIVE UHD4K discs in the set: PSYCHO, REAR WINDOW and THE BIRDS

this might be my favorite Miyazaki

GREAT DTS-HD MA 5.1 soundtracks--both English and Japanese. The score is wonderful and comes alive in the immersive mix, which also puts the viewer right in the middle of the action throughout the film. My sub was booming during Haku's battle and No Face's bath house escapades. WONDERFUL!

I have some DTS:X demo discs and DTS:X rivals atmos. At time it's worse, but at times it's clearly better. Now is a time when competition is not always a better outcome for the consumer. If the two competing factions could get together and create a singular format with the best of both worlds from each format than it's a win for consumers = why capitalism isn't always the best strategy.

A rather MOOT point since the early 90's, DTS and DOLBY have always been rivals and unless one gobbles the other up in a 'takeover,' hostile or otherwise, they're both here to stay.

Capitalism since the 90's hasn't been set in stone (that's 1890). It's a fluid dynamic strategy that is modable by it's owners (Congress, Senate).

It has more to do with innovation. Dolby was first and foremost a noise reduction system for cassettes and Open Reel and transitioned into Dolby Surround for motion pictures. If you recall, for a brief period DBX was direct competition to Dolby and was considered more effective as a noise reduction system than Dolby but DBX vanished and Dolby survived. Survival of the fittest .... hardly capitalism.

I only wish DTS had continued their surround music releases, most especially their foray into MLP DVD~A as opposed to DTS~CD. In a short time, they managed to release quite the esoteric releases across many music labels which was somewhat diluted when the majors were forced to choose sides during the DVD~A/SACD audio 'wars.' I do credit DTS for paving the way for future Music surround releases; Dolby, OTOH, had no interest in music releases, choosing instead to apply their technology to motion pictures and later television.

Tron Legacy (2010) BD:
1. I watched this in the weekend for the first time since it came out and it has a really good surround mix with lots of discrete (there, I done typed it proper) content and some cool lows.
2. Apart from Jeff's de-aging (which I seem to remember looked horrible when the movie came out), the special effects are still really good.
3. I find it a fun brain-off, volume-up watch.

i'm really getting a kick (sorry--i couldn't help myself) out of this Bruce Lee Criterion Collection

the whole set is amazing: 6 complete films, one special edition (Enter the Dragon--the only film with a surround mix), and over 650 minutes (yeah, you read that right!) of bonus features on 7 blu-rays. For the purposes of this thread, i will say that the special edition of Enter the Dragon (the theatrical release is also included) does NOT disappoint and leaves me wishing there were more Lee in surround! The music is nicely spread over the soundscape, the action really kicks (dammit--i did it again), and the LFE rumbles. One helluva fun collection--all Hits, no Misses! Nice way to kick it on a Sunday afternoon (rule of 3!)
