I received that email from Shout this morning but then they do charge additional for s/h unless you spend over $50 and you'll probably get it from Amazon quicker, SW.

BTW, STUDIOCANAL is releasing a lot of John Carpenter films in Europe in Native UHD4K. IMO, the FOG was spectacular.

Good point but I don't have Amazon prime so I usually pay shipping anyway. Mostly it was good to see the entire JC catalog in one place, including some music.

FANTASTIC DEAL:

All this Carpenter chatter prompted me to revisit this DVD release

I had never watched this in surround! I chose the DTS 5.1 option (4.1?). What fun! Carpenter's soundtrack really comes alive in surround, and the action sequences–of which there are many–also benefit from the surround mix. My sub was happy throughout. Not sure if i feel a need to upgrade, but i am happy that i was reminded of this campy joy! Stay Surrounded, Comrades!

One of my favorite endeavors has been movie themed showings. Actually more than themed, more like hyper-themed showings. By that I mean almost set design, special room effects like rain, fog machines, things flying across the room, ceiling sound FX. I can't make my basement be just like the set design of the movie but I use elements that represent aspects of the movie being shown. I'll put it this way: if an explosion happens on screen it probably happens in the room (flash paper). I've done Matinee, Time Bandits, Labyrinth, House on Haunted Hill, Joe vs the Volcano, others and certainly Big Trouble in Little China.

BTiLC ROOM.jpg

In the beginning and end of the film when Jack is using the CB radio, the vocals come out of the CB radio sitting in the foreground. By the right front speaker I converted a rat trap into a solenoid operated catapult and when Wang tries to slice the bottle in half a plastic beer bottle is launched at those sitting on the couch. I said who ever catches it gets a free BTILC T shirt. The 1st time I did it the bottle landed right between my Beagles paws who was also on the couch. "The contest is rigged" everyone said.

I made foam core arches with wrinkled aluminum foil painted grey to represent the stone & arches in the movie. I* used electroluminescent tubing to represent the blue and red neon in the movie. Behind that was 4 flash pots that ignited on cue during the big fight scene. Plasma Buddhas & lava lamps lit up during Lightnings fury. I built a compressed air potato launcher but I used socks, red clothing etc aimed at the couch. When Thunder explodes it shoots this stuff at the viewers. And the noise it made going off is scary on its own. The pile of boxes on the left toppled over during the escape scene through the warehouse. And by the right front speaker again I had an RC white 18 wheeler cab that broke out & drove around the room rather unpredictably.

Big fun in my little Bassment. And then we had Chinese food delivered.

I watched a Disney+ movie last night called "Safety". I am such a sucker for underdog movies, cried buckets.
Released in Dolby Atmos, which was weak, but the best part was I was just into the movie, didn't care about sound at all.
Highly recommend.

Possessor (Uncut) 4K:
1. DTS-MA 5.1 is decent (e.g., when a noise is off-camera, it's usually coming from that direction). No Atmos mix though.
2. Didn't really enjoy the movie though - nothing really new and I found it quite dull. Oh well. Mine's for sale but I'm in NZ so shipping out of the country might be expensive. PM me if you're interested though.
3. Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/Possessor-Un...d=1610914756&sprefix=possessor,aps,369&sr=8-2

The Wolf of Snow Hollow BD:
1. Not a lot going on surround-wise on the DTS-MA 5.1.
2. Movie was short, fast and enjoyable though.

Checking out another DVD that i'd never watched in surround!

Watched with the DTS ES 6.1 mix. The score takes advantage of the surrounds throughout, but the soundstage is very front-centric for the first half of the film; it certainly makes up for it in the second half! Overall, loads of fun with Chicken Run!

AYE!!! THAT'LL GIVE IT THE T(H)RUUUUST!!!!!!!

THE most fun I've had in a long time with a 3D Flick. Shout Factory has hit this out of the ballpark with a NEW 4K remaster and a repurposed, yet effective, HD 5.1 Soundtrack. From the opening titles where they literally come out out of the screen to within a foot of your face, you know you're in for a lot of GHOULISH antics. Blows the older Paramount 3D out of the proverbial water!

Where do we buy this Ralph? I'd get a copy, just for fun.

A SERIOUSLY Scary and Disturbing Import from Spain now streaming on HBO [Europe]: 30 Coins

From an IGN Review: 30 Coins is a truly scary series that builds an impressively creepy atmosphere over the seven episodes we were given for review. More than just that, though, this is an engaging adventure story wrapped up in a monster of the week format that keeps the story fresh and accessible even as we get deeper into the conspiracy at its core. Imagine an R-rated, blood-soaked National Treasure directed by Guillermo del Toro, and you'll have some idea of what to expect coming into this daring and dramatic religious fantasy horror series.
