I don't have many Classical recordings so I don't know much about the miking techniques used to make them.

I was wondering if any specific miking techniques nearly always result in some form of reasonably good (decoded - DynaQuad, QS, SQ w/stereo enhance, [maybe] H) Surround Sound.

This might be of some interest; I've noticed some of the Chesky titles (i.e. -Sara K.) will decode nicely. I might just bite and sample these at 96/24

Finally listened to these mic demos (DPL decoding, 4 Polk T15 speakers), the Wide Spaced Omni's recordings have the best stereo breadth (although DPL is trying to decode something unencoded) and have a little sound routed to the Surround.

Haven't tried DynaQuad decoding (need to run an audio cable from my basement PC to my upstairs system).
