Phew! Try as I might I still can't beat these bidders to get my hands on the mighty Fosgate Tate that I crave for! I'm considering auctioning one of my kidneys to get one ! :)

Item # 920956915 went for $661.52
Item # 921444195 went for $1,144.77

For those who are interested, here is my current setup:-

Sansui QRX-8001 Variomatrix receiver.
Marantz 4140 console amp with SQA-2B SQ module.
Sony SQD-2020.

Technics SL-1210 direct drive turntable with Audio Technica AT14Sa cartridge.

Technics SL-7 direct drive linear tracking turntable with Audio Technica AT331LP cartridge.

Pentium III PC with two 18Gb SCSI drives, Sony CD/RW drive, Turtle Beach Santa Cruz soundcard,
Cool Edit Pro 2.0 and Surcode DTS.

As you can see, the weak link is the Marantz SQ module I am using currently for SQ. It's fairly good but rather on the "harsh" side. As soon as a large amount of instruments appear in the mix, the decoder gets confused and pumps and glitches become audibly apparent.
Once I get hold of a Tate I can finally get down to doing some decent conversions.

I think I would be happy to go over $1,000 if anyone has a spare lurking about (hint... hint....)

Here's hoping.

"A SPARE" ! ! ! ?

If they do they could make some serious
ca$h. I got mine last year for $700.00
I'd like to get A QSD-1 with the 3 eq boards next! But money's been tight, but things are about to change!
Just got contacted by a Company that wants me for their new supermarket store opening in January 2003 = $$$to spend on surround sound stuff!

$1100 PLUS, THAT'S INSANE! Be patient 40 or so come up on ebay every year. Don't pay more than $650. Mine was $650 and that included the remote.

And when I went to borrow the money from the bank to buy my Audionics Space and Image Composer, the banker told me that electronic devices lose their value very quickly. I had to put up my car. Now the car is worthless, and the Tate is worth more than I paid for it some 23 years ago. Funny how things work out!

It is amazing isn't it! I'll sit tight, I'm sure one will come my way sooner or later!

On a slightly different note, I just got crisp practically new original service manuals for the Marantz 4140 and the SQA-2B module. See the thread "Difference between SQA-1, 2 and 2B".

There are deals on these things out there. I found one a while back (in the midst of all the mania) on eBay that was only at about $29 until the last few minutes of the auction. It DID NOT state the word "Tate" anywhere on the auction page, but I searched under Fosgate and there was a picture to tell me it was the real thing. I bid well over $500 because I REALLY wanted this one, and I won the auction for (HONESTLY) $51.00 !!!

To make a long story short, it had a problem when it arrived, but I sent it to Bob Popham and he repaired it with all of the latest upgrades. The whole deal, with shipping, repairs and everything (I am in Canada) cost me less than US$300. !!! Hang in there. They are out there. Sometimes you just fall into them. I got my Sony SQD-2010 for NOTHING on a bet with a moron at a pawn shop ... but that was another story. Good luck! MIKE.

I GOT MINE (TATE11 101A)ON EBAY LAST YEAR FOR $500 USD AND I THOUGHT MY CREDIT CARD WAS GOING TO HAVE A HEART ATTACK!! I CONCURE WITH THE OTHERS HANG IN,AND TRY TO KEEP IT BELOW $500 US,I HAVE SEEN 5 ON EBAY SINCE MAY 2002,ONE I CAPTURED!

Since we're all exchanging Tate stories...

I got my first one with remote, original manual and sales literature off eBay for $250.00. I contacted the seller soon after his auction started and made the offer if he ended his auction early. I think I pissed off more than a couple of people. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/ohwell.gif ALT=":\">

Then I found one through an online pawn shop for $50.00! I cleaned that one up and it sold it on eBay. It went for a mind-boggling $960.00!

Then I had mine re-capped by Quad Bob with polypropolene caps. That job cost me $300.00.

All told, I paid NEGATIVE $360.00 for my re-capped Tate!

Wow Cai! I don't think anyone can top that one!
A Tate for -$360 is a quite a steal!
I'm waiting for mine to arrive. It's got quite a way to come so I asked the seller to pack extra well and double-box, since it has the original box which I'd like to try and preserve if at all possible. I remembered the foam-on-the-transformer, too!
Now there is a story to this one, too. The seller lives in Prescott, Arizona and has had it from new. Bought as some crazy forsighted investment !!!!!!!!!!
Fingers crossed it arrived in one piece !

I got my tate off of ebay about 4 years ago for under $300. I think I had seen them sell for way more then that previously, so I was surprised when I still had high bed at the end of that auction. Complete with remote and everything. Sometimes I'm tempted to list it and use the money to buy a SACD and DVD-A player....but, nah, maybe not.
