How does it compare to the Apple streaming atmos version? My bias would lean toward indistinguishable but on the other hand few apple atmos recordings draw me in like my favorite (lossless) 5.1's do. 🤷‍♂️

Ah--I didn't realize it was on Apple. I find that for chamber music (and most acoustic music), the 768k stream offers plenty of bandwidth for good resolution.

Another new chamber recording. The Ligeti Bagatelles are always fun. (ruvido enough?)

Good tip. I like Audite! (And forget to check in periodically to see what's new.)

I came upon what I consider a 'sweet deal' at ImportCD for Bruckner's 9 symphonies in 5.1 multi~CH SACD [9 DISCS] performed by various conductors* with the Berliner Philharmoniker. Import CD erroneously lists it as Bruckner Symphonies 1~7 but they contain ALL 9. Presto's price is $10 more plus s/h

*Bruckner: 9 Symphonies - Ozawa, Järvi, Blomstedt, Haitink, Jansons, Thielemann, Mehta, Rattle

Bruckner: 9 Symphonies - Ozawa, Järvi, Blomstedt, Haitink, Jansons, Thielemann, Mehta, Rattle

This is an excellent performance of sacred works of J.V. Meder. He was a younger contemporary of D.Buxtehude. He may not be as famous as Buxtehude or Bach, but Meder’s motets and cantatas are of high quality. This recording is especially interesting as it includes a couple of tracks for multiple choirs with discrete use of the rear channels. I wish I could say the whole recording was discrete (like Audite’s SACD “Polychoral Splendour from the four galleries of the Abbey Church of Muri - Strobl” was) but alas most of the tracks on this recording are ambient. Having said that, even the ambient tracks have a full, natural soundstage. And it’s nice to see (hear 😉👂) MDG make the extra effort. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys Baroque choral music in the northern German style similar to Buxtehude, and Bach.

My simple mind still does not comprehend why the download ($59.00) costs more than the SACDs.

Presto Music seems to have reasonable prices, something I like.

@humprof and @Lute ...
thought of you guys cause I have "migrated" to WWNO Classical 104.5FM from WWOZ and I heard a REALLY moving piece which , although it falls within the subcategory of Sountrack, I thought was really sublime and I HIGHLY recommend it...
it's called "Introspection" by Jocelyn Pook and I found only one physical release and it definitely seems worth it so I took the plunge. It's a CD which is all female composers and performers...

Thanks, kap'n! I wasn't familiar with this artist--or this composer. (Although I'm at least passingly familiar with some of the other composers on the album.) It's a haunting piece.

Beautiful piece! Thank you for sharing it. I don’t have many good radio stations where I am now. But I have a lot of good memories of discovering new music on the radio. And speaking of film music, I checked out Jocelyn Pook’s soundtrack for “The Staircase” and the track “Bad Weather“ reminded me of Carter Burwell’s mesmerizing score for the 2015 film Carol. Yes, there certainly is a lot of gorgeous music in films. BTW, I also like Angèle Dubeau’s interpretation of “Experience“

This lovely set arrived this morning from ImportCD in perfecto condition. A 131 page glossy booklet accompanies the 9 disc Multi~CH SACD set and is enclosed in a sturdy slipcase.

Am now spinning Bruckner's Symphony #1 with Seiji Ozawa conducting the Berliner Philharmoniker and the performance/sonics are most satisfying....with ambient rears [of course].

Highly Recommended to Bruckner aficionados!

I did not see a surround download for this
https://www.pentatonemusic.com/product/brahms-symphonies-3-4/but it seems there will be one.🤞
Regarding the multichannel version of PTC5186852 Brahms 3&4, we don’t have the MCH version of this album at this moment. Producer in question had not delivered the multichannel version, unlike for the previous two Brahms albums. We have sent him several emails in the last few weeks, asking him when we can expect the multichannel version. Unfortunately, his schedule is completely booked and he will be first able to deliver it in July. Please check our website then.

I hope this profile of Davis--and a new production of X that travels to the Met next year--gets Davis some overdue attention. (The OOP recording on Gramavision is good, but a surround version on DG or BMOP/sound would be better...)
