Really enjoying The Band, Sheryl Crow, the James Brown, all making good use of surrounds.
The Blondie and Katrina and the Waves tracks were disappointing.
Booka Shade is, as you'd expect for something recorded for Atmos, the most sophisticated

Oh, so fun to be able to join the conversation on Tidal Atmos playlists.

Too bad about Blondie. That is another band that could be brilliant in multichannel.

That worked!
Listening to The Band in Atmos now.
Thanks so much to you and Eric for helping me work it out :)

Tried out Yello (indeed, works well) and already had Kraftwerk in Atmos on Blu-Ray, reference quality.

What do folks think about dozen Blue Note albums in Atmos? Subtle from surround perspective.

First impression after listening to a bunch of Atmos content on Tidal is there's a lot more than I had anticipated. Much is just ambient surround. For example the dozen Blue Note jazz albums. Material mixed for Atmos (Kraftwerk, Booka Shade, 2L's Magnificat, REM) and material with adventurous use of surrounds (Yello) really grabbed me. Most of the pop, R&B, funk etc. seemed half-baked from a surround perspective.

Q: If I've heard REM Automatic for the People in Atmos how does this differ from the blu-ray? Is it compressed? It was one of the stronger mixes on Tidal, but I suspect the blu-ray is superior? Anyone compared?
By contrast the Kraftwerk actually sounded better to my ear on Tidal than blu-ray...could just be the ease of playing it, or in contrast to mediocre mixes. Haven't A-B-ed.
I see Abbey Road deluxe, but couldn't find Atmos mix on Tidal. Is it there?

I LOVE the idea of avoiding pricey boxed sets with streaming option, particularly when all I want to hear is the surround. I've saved myself $70 on REM for example.

Beyond listening through the available content, is there a list of Tidal Atmos faves here on QQ, or are they just peppered on this thread?

Just scattered throughout this thread--along with a lot of grousing about the relative lack of content, the difficulty of getting equipment configured and working properly, and Tidal's abysmal customer service. (I'm guilty of all three.)

LOL. I'll scan the thread. Perhaps we can assemble a starter kit for newbies, akin to the top ranked in QQ Surround Polls.
Yes, the equipment was a bear, but glad to be up and running now. I've yet to encounter Tidal customer service and remain on the fence as to whether I'll migrate from Spotify after trial ends (my kids would not be happy despite ability to transfer playlists).

Start tidal trial
buy Firestick 4k
Put firestick into HDMI on receiver. I would use ethernet but you can do wifi if you want.
DL tidal app on firestick. search tidal; DL
settings; display and sound; audio; surround sound; best available
search dolby atmos
play tracks/albums

Bingo

Perfect instructions. Wish I'd had those a few days back ;)
What tracks would you recommend? Perhaps we can do a playlist on Tidal of 'reference quality Atmos' or similar. The playlists right now are mixed from a surround perspective

Here's a few playlists from QQ folks that we all made during the beginning of the rollout These will get you started:

♥ them on the desktop or web app, then you'll have them on your Firestick too.

I see a "New Arrivals" playlist added.
While most of the songs are not exactly new, there are a few that I haven't seen before.
And I guess if there are any new singles added in the future (that are not in any of the "Now Available" Atmos albums), they would be added here.

How about some Metal, Rock & Classic Rock titles!!! ROCK ISNT DEAD!!

Like Boston, Aerosmith, Zep, Hendrix, Beatles, The Cult, CSN&Y.....that's just for starters

@popshop just posted on the Atmos "Listening" thread that an Atmos mix of The Replacements' Pleased to Meet Me has shown up.

https://listen.tidal.com/album/157893488

OK what??? This came out a few days ago in a deluxe box set LP and cds - stereo only of course............but you're telling me someone took the time to make an atmos mix and not mention it before the box releasease WTF

So fucking confused and a bit frustrated with all the miscommunications about what is happening with these releases.

If it's any consolation, @Snood (and I've only listened to the first four cuts so far, and at a moderate volume, so this judgment is a little premature): the mix is nothing that special--one of those "let's add some space and lift" Atmos mixes. (Tidal is not offering any info by way of mixing credits.)

But yeah: it's baffling that they would go to all that trouble and then only make it available on streaming services. Was it just an afterthought? And what an insult to all the loyal fans who shelled out bipty-odd bucks for the super-duper box set. That might turn my dancing bananas into angry oranges and piles of poo, too.

Another cross-post, sort of: I mentioned on the "Listening to Atmos" thread that there seems to be backward progress on the volume issue that we've been trying to get resolved for months. Both the John Lennon Gimme Some Truth box and The Replacements' Pleased to Meet Me are, if anything, even quieter than any of the Atmos tracks & albums that have appeared previously.

And there's still no way to turn off Autoplay on Tidal for Fire Stick. Yeesh.

Thanks for the guidance

Thanks!! Super helpful to have this index of playlists. I've added all to the app.
And am now making my way through the 'Listening to now in Atmos' thread. Phew.
