BigBillQuad usually catches and points out these oddities, but here's a Toshiba CD-4 demodulator with volume control (like the Technics SH-3480 we've recently been talking about), unique separation controls on the front, and accommodation for condenser cartridges (are they the same as semiconductor/strain gauge cartridges?). The unit looks to be about as large as the Technics SH-3480.

Toshiba did make two or three 'solid state' carts back in the day. A few Toshiba receivers (the quad SA-504 comes to mind) even had a switchable preamp to accommodate them too. I've seen a few hard-installed (i.e. you're stuck with it) on some turntables during my eBay searches but never any in person let alone a quad version. Definitely the Panasonic units (and replacement styli) are more common.
