Here's an interesting deal. Buy an SACD at full price (£20 or more) from UK web store Vivante and they'll sell you a 20 song Sony SACD sampler for £10.

The ad on the web says that it's a Multichannel Sampler, but it's not clear whether all of the tracks are Multichannel - or just some.

Here's the info on their web site at www.vivante.co.uk/Site/Recommended.html :

"SACD Special Offer!

Spend Over £20 on SACDs and get this incredible multichannel sampler for only £10!

Ultimate Collection

Got an SACD Player and wondering what to play on it? Fret no more! Vivante Productions Ltd have secured a very limited supply of these superb sampler discs from Sony Music. We know that this astonishing collection will persuade more and more of our customers to want to experience the beauty of SACD surround sound, so grab a copy while stocks last! This is a great single layer, multi-channel SACD consisting of 2 discs and 20 brilliant tracks, featuring: Celine Dion, Jeff Beck, Roger Waters, James Taylor, Ricky Martin, Yo Yo Ma, Wynton Maralis, Louis Armstrong and many more! "

Can u.s. residents purchase items from this company? Everything is in pounds. Has anyone dealt with this site before?

Sure. In fact, I just sent them an order to try out their service and pick up the 2 SACD Multichannel Sampler.

did you call or use their online packaging.

What was shipping like(not sure of your location)?

Yes, I used their web site for placing the order.

Not sure what the shipping method is or how long it will take to arrive. We'll see.

A quick update on the Vivante SACD Sampler. I ordered a full price Multichannel SACD from them (Everything for Love by Chuck Mangione on Chesky) so I could buy one of these and check it out.

Took about a week from the date of order to arrive. They sent out the order by Air Mail.

The Sony sampler is indeed 2 SACD discs and 20 tracks. But only some of the songs are in Multichannel and Stereo. So it may not be quite as interesting as originally billed. But I still enjoyed picking up a 20 song sampler for a pretty low price.

I got my sampler too! It came pretty fast. I ordered the CHesky Surround Sound Samper, and got the CBS double SACD free! What a deal.

Well, my advice would be to consider the Philips SACD-1000. It's a DVD Video/CD/Multichannel SACD player that originally sold for $2,000 and now has a $999 list price. Oade Brothers (www.oade.com) has them for $795.

A fine deal when you consider that the player's "engine" is the same as the Marantz SA-12S1 - a $3,500 list priced SACD player. And the player has a warm, smoother sound than the Sony SACD players in that price range.

And Philips also throws in 2 free SACDs in the box with the SACD-1000 - an indexed version of "Film Music of Jerry Goldsmith" and a Classical SACD by the Budapest Festival Orchestra. Both Hybrid Multichannel SACDs.

Well, I ordered my sampler. The prices of their SACD's are pretty darn expensive, but if this is the only way to get the sampler, what the heck...

The good news is you only need to buy 1 full price SACD from them to get the sampler.

Yeah, I ordered the Brian Eno SACD. It's not a multi-channel disc, but I was quite surprised to see the disc. I figure if I have to pay through the nose, I might as well buy one that isn't generally available in the states (well, at least not yet anyway.)

That makes sense. Most of the Virgin SACDs are targeted at the European market vs. the US. Tubular Bells seems to be the exception there.

The Red Trumpet web site may be your best bet in terms of picking up the other Virgin Stereo SACDs now available.
