Excellent documentary on backup singers.View attachment 53596
Amazing, very emotional and with a lot of stories behind great bands.

I liked very much Hired Gun, similar theme, although not so good as 20 Feet..:

I like very much VH-1 Behind The Music and Classic Albums in general, always with real interviews to the main protagonists.

A great Canadian band that got little love.

This one almost makes me cry, great story. If you like that one, you can't miss this one, not only a documentary but a great film:

COUNT BASIE
THROUGH HIS OWN EYES

Just watched a good one on my PBS channel on Count Basie, learned some things about him I didn't know and how much Frank Sinatra loved and helped protect him, his band and Quincy Jones from terrible racism in Las Vegas. The man was genius for sure.

And while your at it, listen again to their work together with this DVD-A:

Legendary performance--anything special about the mix? (Sinatra at the Sands, I mean.)

And one of the very best docs I've ever seen, about any subject: Searching for Sugar Man. (@holland123 : calling the Motor City--back me up on this one!) It's leaving Netflix later this month, so catch it while you can. Also: it won an Oscar for Best Documentary, FWIW.
I recently saw this on Netflix and it is very, very good.

I've always wanted to produce Rock Doc's and one band that has not yet had justice done for them is none other then Led Zeppelin.....sign me up if there is anyone who is a mover and shaker to get involved in making one.

This one is ok but not great

My understanding is that a documentary on the early years of Zep has been completed with the full involvement of the surviving members and they are figuring out how to distribute it. Soon, hopefully.

I am surprised no one has mentioned The History of Rock & Roll which aired on PBS in 1995 - by far the best music documentary I've seen.

Here's a youtube link to pieces of various episodes .

Unfortunately it was never released on DVD due to all of the music used throughout which made getting the licensing rights next to impossible. Narrated by Liev Schreiber, it is quite excellent.

Some other great music docs include:

Festival Express

The Beatles - Anthology
When You're Strange - A Film About The Doors
Mr. Dynamite-The Rise of James Brown
The Seven Ages of Rock
Soundbreaking - Stories From The Cutting Edge of Recorded Music

Classic Albums:
Steely Dan - Aja
Paul Simon - Graceland
Deep Purple - Machine Head
Grateful Dead - Anthem To Beauty
Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon

The Band, The Final Waltz, don't forget to PLAY LOUD!!! Bohemian Rapsody Orchestral Rock Never will be copied... The Magic of Dire Straits, what a sound, The Eagles Farewell Tour, Who can't vote and listen to the Prince, Musical magic, Stevie Ray Vaughan Rock the Blues all night long... OMG WTF I could do this all day! we are so blessed to have all this creative music to enjoy! Yes, they were our bands and songs without them our lives would have had a big hole in all the joy that music has given all of us, For the Artists who have gone, your in our prayers and for the artists still here Thank you for the all the Memory and joy, Enjoy whatever is your favourite band but never forget to ROCK ON!!!
