Why is our country failing miserably battling the same pandemic other countries have been able to get under control? It’s real simple. It starts at the top.
Not really that simple...the way our government is structured...individual states and can ignore the federal gov't...and even individual cities can ignore their state govt.....PLUS we have the time honored tradition of challenging everything we don't like by claiming it's a violation of our constitutional rights...and elements like the ACLU live for those times...so they can "appear" to be relevant again....in other words...sometimes we have too much democracy....when you are in a place like Italy...it is much easier....you just shut the down the country if you desire....you don't have all these "hoops" to jump through...I don't want to get dragged into a political discussion....so that is my take on the subject...

Like John Boy on the Walton's would say, " looks like it's gonna be bad Paw"
That reminds me of the old TV series....Bonanza....there you had Dan Blocker....playing the character of Hoss...... at 6'4 and 320 pounds and balding...looking down at Lorne Green...who played the father Ben Cartwright...asking him..."Paw can I take the wagon to town" :ROFLMAO:

Some unfortunate news to wake up to today; looks like I’ll need to keep hunkered down for a while longer- you guys will help keep me engaged - I know!
🤗

Looks like we might be hunkering down for a l-o-n-g time:
Flu virus with 'pandemic potential' found in China

At some point we'll all be living underground, surfacing rarely just to forage, just like the Morlocks:

Living in Floriduh where they don't like masks I am agreeing with you i'm certainly glad I have music and movies to watch.
That's a good point that hasn't really been touched on yet. Most of us here are pretty home oriented. Our favorite passions like music/quad/movies are what we enjoy at home. Yes I know more than a few here still enjoy live performance but we can still surrogate enjoy that at home. Now if you're a hard core live sports enthusiast, pr have a small apartment that you really want to get away from a bit, it's much tougher.

Yeah. I'm a retired not-particularly-social introvert who generally likes to do things that are inherently not really possible to share. So the staying inside with the doors locked thing comes naturally to me. If anything, the current situation is almost a relief. Well, until I simply can't put off grocery shopping any longer, at which point I have to wonder if the disease or the anti-mask protestors will get me. (To be fair, I haven't seen any of the latter first-hand around here, but the online videos of them are sure frightening.)

I feel bad for those who prefer to actually enjoy the outside world and interact with other h*m*ns, though.

I got a bad call from my lung doctor today about my inhalation and exhalation pressures. 6 months ago they were 42% and 47% respectfully. Now they are down to 30% and 41%, so at this rate the nerve damage that continues to eat away at my core, thus causing the muscles to atrophy, will likely only give me a year left. I guess I had better get busy going through all my 800 Lp's

Sorry to hear this, Hobie. Do I recall correctly that your nerve damage problem is the result of a massive fire ant attack? Hang in there!

well, just a normal fire ant attack where they stopped at my knees. Got bit about 30 times but it was enough to trigger the Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease I had hiding in me since birth.
