Just picked these up on EBay. They seemed rare so I snagged them. Then I checked the archives here and it was confirmed. I also picked up a nice copy of MJQ’s “Blues for Bach” with slip cover for something like $15 last night. That was one I have wanted for awhile. Would be willing to trade for the ones I got tonight if anyone is interested:

Nothing too fancy, just the two I won from that seller in Sweden auctioning off a collection. He had some good stuff, too! Isley's, The Manhattans, Musicmagic - a lot of it still sealed and bidding started at $10 /each! Herbie was still sealed. I opened it - and, like most sealed tapes, required a LOT of surgery to make it work again. Luckily, it was near the splice. Fresh splice, new pad, Robert's your Mothers' Brother. My first Herbie Hancock Q8, too! Though I have Thrust and Sextant on SACD.

Funny how technology made a big difference. Both are Dolby Q8's, but the Hancock sounds a bit lifeless with Dolby on, especially the back channels. On the other hand, the Andy Williams tape sounds AMAZING with Dolby ON. Quite hissy with it off, but perfectly quiet and still nice and bright with Dolby on. That was a pleasant surprise.

The Japanese gold lettering embossed clothbound boxes are special. Are prices high on this kind of stuff, or is it far enough away from the pop and rock titles that good deals are still found?

Joan solo with guitar in quad?

I'm just shocked that you can find these Q8 tapes still sealed!!! What the heck? What's going on? Are they somehow lost in someone's attic and then found dozens of years later? Or, were people scarfing up multiple copies of these things back in the day....hoping to sell for a better price? (sounds familiar)!!

Well, it could just be from people who collect. I still have a few sealed tapes in my collection like Sergio Mendez and Graham Central Station. I haven't opened them because, in all honesty, I'm not too interested in the music. But also that there are multiple conversions floating around of those titles. However, I've had other sealed tapes, like the Herbie Hancock, where I *WANT* to hear the music. I scored a sealed Steve Miller/Joker Q8 years ago for like, $20.... I opened it! But let's also not forget that my Quad hobby also spills into my car hobby. I have a Quad player in my Gremlin and in my Javelin. So, when I drive them, I take some Q8's with me. Eventually, I want to put another Quad Player in my Hornet hatchback. And since it's a well-optioned hatchback, it has a flat floor in the hatch area. I'd like to set up a display with as many of my Quad tapes it can haul, and with as many advertisements about Quad that I can find. :) It'd be a neat display at a car show.

You have a Gremlin, Javelin and Hornet? I am SO incredibly envious.

Another Facebook marketplace score. I'm almost embarassed to say what I paid for either of these tapes. But a solid hint is that postage was three times what I paid for the tapes. Is it really considered taking advantage of someone if they're the ones who set the price and you just pay it?
