Townsend does a good cover of the song, doesn‘t he! It seems he (and David Gilmour) had trouble figuring out the tuning. LOL!! According to Wakeling, the story goes like this:

Pete Townshend writing the song wouldn’t surprise me. He’s an excellent songwriter in his own right.
