If you live near a Fry's Electronics store, check them out for Sony Music SACDs. They price the Sony Stereo SACDs starting at $14.99 and Sony Multichannel SACDs at $16.99. Best deal I've found.

On the web, you'll find Acoustic Sounds, Elusive Disc and Music Direct each carry over 300 of the available SACDs. Elusive Disc has the best deal on the Sony SACDs - $17.99 each - regardless of whether the title is Multichannel or Stereo only.

And both Music Direct and Elusive Disc will give you 10%
off your purchase of $50 or more between now and April 15th if you type in "Spring Flyer 10%" in the comment field of your order form at Music Direct or you email a mention of it to Elusive Disc.

And don't forget the Good Guys offer of the Philips SACD-1000 Multichannel SACD player for a close out price of $999. A fine buy of a player that shares the guts of the much pricier Marantz SA-12 ($3,800).

Definitely some good deals out there for Hi Rez and Multichannel music fans !

A new Best Buy opened up in Newington, CT yesterday. I went there at lunchtime hoping to check out the frsh stock of SACDs and DVD-As. As Brian has said, the SACDs were found in their own section, way in the back. (They had a SONY SACD Player for $199!) I scoured through the 4 racks of SACDs, and there were very few multi-channel units. I grabbed the Roger Waters, a Billy Joel (52nd St), and an Alice in Chains. There were not many more multi-channel. I thought I found a Tapestry, but it turned out to be stereo. What's up with that?

THEN - - - I attempted to find the DVD-A's. Their store in nearby Manchester, CT has quite a good selection of DVD-A's at $22 each. Well, I looked and could not find. I asked the staff, who had no idea what I was talking about. Then, one said, "Oh Yeah, come with me", and he brought me back to the SACDs. Good Grief!!

I felt like I was back in Virginia Beach, looking for the quad LP section at Tracks! :D

It's all part of the new format process, I suppose.

As to Best Buy, they sometimes mix the SACDs in with the Stereo CDs. So you may want to check there as well when shopping.

That's where I found they had the "Tubular Bells" Multichannel SACD by Mike Oldfield.

Best deals at Best Buy are when they mismark the SACDs - some examples had the Stereo SACD of Top Gun for $12.99 last week and the Stereo SACD of "Heavy Weather" by Weather Report for $11.99.

Worth a look.
